The four funniest zodiac signs, according to an astrologer

In her poem “Solitude,” Scorpio Ella Wheeler Wilcox wrote the famous lines, “Laugh, and the world laughs with you; Weep, and you weep alone.”

For our part, we’ll keep the company of comics and clowns and find our medicine in the form of riotous laughter.

Interested in discovering the funniest zodiac sign, Psychicworld.com, took a peek at the birth charts of the world’s top comedians.

According to their findings, Cancer takes the cake for comedy, with an astounding 14% of the funny people falling under the sign of the crab. Sagittarius was number two with an arrow, and Taurus and Virgo shared the glory of the bronze medal for belly laughs.

On the opposite end of the hilarity scale, Aquarius was ranked as the least funny.

Ask an Aquarius why, and they’ll invariably tell you that most people don’t “really get” their jokes. Chris Rock is a prime example of what happens when the punchline becomes a face slap for a water bearer.

Astrology helps us make sense of our strengths and struggles, and just as it can reveal the most emotional among us, the hottest, the smartest, and even the most dangerous, so too can it indicate who makes for a natural comedian.

Read on to learn more about the signs on the laughable list.

CANCER (June 21 – July 22)

Putting to practice the idea of the sad clown, Cancer is ranked as the funniest sign in the zodiac, with such comedic luminaries as Will Ferrell, Gilda Radner, Kevin Hart, Aubrey Plaza, Ricky Gervais, Phyllis Diller, and Mindy Kaling born under its stars.

Highly sensitive and deeply observational, Cancer comics are adept at finding humor in their immediate surrounding. They are naturally attuned and absorptive as a water sign, qualities that leave them vulnerable to injury and inspiration.

Almost pathologically effacing, crabs are quick to make themselves the punchline.

There’s a dark “say it about yourself before they can say it about you” vibe to crabs that is emotionally destabilizing to them and downright hilarious to everyone else. Interestingly, not only is Cancer ranked as the funniest sign, but many famous comedians have their moon in this water sign, including Kaling, a double Cancer.

Cancer rules the stomach and is thus the natural domain of belly laughs.

The late, great Robin Williams perfectly surmised his signs approach to comedy when he was interviewed by journalist Jessica Gelt on the set of his last show, “The Crazy Ones,” in 2014.

“For me, comedy starts as a spew, a kind of explosion, and then you sculpt it from there, if at all,” Williams explained. “It comes out of a deeper, darker side. Maybe it comes from anger because I’m outraged by cruel absurdities, the hypocrisy that exists everywhere, even within yourself, where it’s hardest to see.”

Cancer is a sign that takes things personally and feels things deeply; their greatest defense strategy is transforming the wounds of their soul into comedic, collective gold.

A mutable fire sign symbolized by a centaur with a bow and arrow, Sagittarius is the first sign to shoot off at the mouth. These people will say anything to anyone at any time, making them dicey dinner company and brilliant comedians.

Terminally curious and unencumbered by taboo, they are always searching for information that they can turn into anecdotes and experiences that they can mine for laughs.

Naturally optimistic, archers bounce back quickly and with gusto when their jokes fall flat or flat-out offensive.

Famous Sagittarius comedians include Billy Connolly, Jammie Foxx, Tiffany Haddish, Sarah Silverman, and Margaret Cho.

Provocative but not necessarily mean-spirited, natives seek to push their own boundaries while edging others towards their brinks. In the case of comedic genius and unrepentant Sag Richard Pryor, they urge society towards a slow reckoning.

Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter, the planet of expansion, and through his fearless willingness to go deep, dark, and beyond, Pryor broadened the confines of comedy and elevated the role of the comedian to cultural critic.

TAURUS (April 20 – May 20)

Defiant and deliberate, the stalwart nature of Taurus finds a happy home in the green pastures of comedy.

As an earth sign, Taurus has a practical energy, and their brand of humor is often rooted in what they believe to be the nonsensical practices of the world around them and the humans that inhabit it.

Notable Taurean comics include George Carlin, Jerry Seinfeld, Tina Fey, Bob Saget, Stephen Colbert and Carol Burnett.

True to the nature-preferring, human-eschewing vibes of Taurus, Carlin famously espoused, “We’re so self-important. So arrogant. Everybody’s going to save something now. Save the trees, save the bees, save the whales, save the snails. And the supreme arrogance? Save the planet! Are these people kidding?”

He continued: “Save the planet? We don’t even know how to take care of ourselves; we haven’t learned how to care for one another. We’re gonna save the f****n’ planet? And, by the way, there’s nothing wrong with the planet in the first place. The planet is fine. The people are f***ed!”

They don’t call it a raging bull for nothing, folks. Whether taking a stand against savior complexes or the tyranny of obscenity, Taurus is down to go hard and loud.

VIRGO (August 23 – September 22)

There is no sign more versed in perception and judgment than Virgo.

These folks can’t help but see what others cannot, and at their highest expression, they are able to take these observations and spin them into cutting comedy.

Ruled by Mercury, Virgos understands timing. Because they laboriously self-punish, their funny is heavily edited. They don’t say a lot, but when they do, it’s unexpected and memorable.

Notable Virgo comics include Dave Chapelle, Adam Sandler, Kat Williams, Amy Poehler, Chris Tucker, Melissa McCarthy and Nicole Byer.

Virgos nurse the old familiar wound that they aren’t enough, and in turn, their comedy feels authentically self-deprecating. Suspicious of praise and driven to serve others, they take laughter seriously.
