Neil Cavuto leaving Fox News after 28 years: ‘I got to do what I love to do’
Longtime Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto is leaving the network after 28 years after he declined a contract offer, The Post has learned.
The 66-year-old broadcaster announced his departure during his show “Your World” Thursday afternoon.
“I got to do what I love to do — report the news. Not shout the news, not blast the news, not — well, call names. Just call balls and strikes,” Cavuto said.
“I’m forever grateful to my bosses here, they’ve been very good to me these many years and offered a very generous opportunity for me to stay years more — that’s pretty amazing considering the fact that, I don’t know, I might’ve missed a day or two here or there,” Cavuto added, jokingly referencing his many health battles with multiple sclerosis, COVID-19 hospitalizations, infections and open heart surgery.
Cavuto went on to thank his producers, writers and camerapeople at Fox, quipping that some of his colleagues had not been born when he started his career at the network.
He said he saved his “biggest thanks for last” — the viewers who allowed him into their homes for nearly three decades.
Cavuto’s contract expires at the end of the month.
The anchor’s current shows — including Fox’s “Your World” on weekdays at 4 p.m., “Cavuto Coast to Coast” on Fox Business weekdays at noon and “Cavuto Live” on Saturday mornings — will be hosted by a rotating group of anchors until Fox announces replacement programming in the new year, the source added.
“Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media,” Fox told The Post in a statement.
“His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best on his next chapter.”
Though Fox has fared better than other media outlets — ranking as the No. 1 cable news network — it is not immune to financial pressures squeezing the industry, the source said.
Mediaite earlier reported his exit.
The longtime news anchor has been open about his health scares in the past.
In 2022, Cavuto took a five-week leave from anchoring his Fox shows after he nearly died from a second bout of COVID-19.
The illness landed him in the intensive care unit, he said.
“Some of you who’ve wanted to put me out of my misery darn near got what you wished for,” he joked, adding, “Sorry to disappoint you.”
