Today, I had the chance to attend an interesting webinar on the Logistics & Transportation industry. With our upcoming visit to Logistik & Transport | Svenska Mässan in Sweden, this was the perfect moment to deepen our understanding of the current challenges and the future vision shared by key industry players. As Susanne Andersson mentioned, the industry is currently in the midst of a 'perfect storm,' influenced by economic downturns, disruptions across global trade routes, and geopolitical tensions, including the war in Ukraine and the Middle East crisis. The consensus is clear: transformative changes are not just necessary, they are inevitable. 🍀 Emission Reductions and Sustainability: The drive towards greener solutions is crucial. Despite the higher initial costs, the long-term benefits - both financial and environmental - are undeniable. Jacob Thärnå shared scenarios on how quickly we can transition from the current use of oil and gas to more sustainable options, which will define our future. Another interesting insights from this year’s DLF Norway (The Grocery Suppliers of Norway) Høstmøte comes from the newly published report by Dagligvaretilsynet. Suppliers were asked if their annual negotiations with retailers are characterized by fairness, predictability, and loyalty. Here’s how the retailers scored: • Norgesgruppen: 78% agree • Rema1000: 69% agree • Coop: 70% agree These numbers reflect a strong sense of trust and integrity in Norway’s retail landscape. This morning we published our Interim Report for the first quarter of the year. CEO Nils Andén and interim CFO Patrick Kortman presented a solid report where total revenue grew 3% in constant currency and the underlying EBITDA increased 20% year-on-year. 🔸 Q1 provided an encouraging increase in underlying EBITDA, coming in at GBP 59.3m – the strongest quarter since Q3 2021. Cost efficiency efforts put in place at the end of 2023 are starting to pay off and indicate the scalability of the business. The total revenue came in on GBP 307.7 million, an increase of 3% in constant currency and representing a new all-time high of 84% of GWR from locally regulated markets. 🔸 The Netherlands, UK and Romania show strong growth, where Kindred continues to outgrow the market. The exit from North America is continuing according to plan and we expect to be operationally out of the market by end of Q2. 🔸 Kindred Sportsbook Platform(KSP) remains firmly on track with the platform now live in a test market. KSP is a fundamental value driver and product offering differentiator. We are now accelerating our roll-out to small non-strategic markets during Q2. 🔸 We now have our eyes set on a busy summer of sports that kicks-off towards the end of the second quarter. Nils Andén, CEO at Kindred Group said: “We have had a solid start to 2024 with the underlying business operations performing well and operational initiatives moving forward according to plan. The headcount reduction plans announced at the end of last year are progressing as intended and the North America exit is set to conclude towards the end of the second quarter this year. Our growth plan that we launched during the fourth quarter last year, focusing on Europe and Australia, continues at pace with dedicated strategic growth projects across locally regulated markets”. Today, we hosted the first member meeting of S-HUB’s Sustainable Procurement Network at Epicenter Oslo. At Ignite, we’re excited to partner with Sustainability Hub Norway (S-HUB) to help companies transform procurement to succeed with their sustainability agenda. I expect many companies will fail early in this journey because procurement often doesn’t have the right mandate or access to the expertise needed. That’s why we spoke about how to get a mandate that includes sustainable procurement, what that entails, and the key steps for a successful transformation. EY’s Hanne Thornam, Inger Eline Romundgard, and Wida Angela Wingsnes shared what the new EU regulations entail and why it’s crucial to incorporate sustainable practices into everyday procurement in line with the company’s overall strategy. Ingrid Håvik from Strawberry shared how they’ve redefined their procurement mandate and organization to be more future-proof. She shred her experience and recommendations of how they built sustainability into their procurement process, and exemplified with how they had run the screening and selection process in the fruit and vegetables category. After today, one thing’s clear: sustainability and procurement teams need to work closely together to succeed in this transformation and we need to ensure the procurement teams get a strong enough mandate so they can be held accountable for the change.

Jonna Ryhänen, CIO Elo, tells IPE-media about strategic asset allocation, investing for change and in-house expertise. Ryhänen shared her view on Finnish companies´ outlook from an investors point of view. “It certainly has been regrettable and it will take some time before we see it rebound but we do see it recovering in the longer term. Looking at stock pricing it does now look attractive. We believe that international investors have viewed the Finnish market as risky because of the current geopolitical situation and Finland’s long border with Russia. This may have been a factor in their evaluation of the attractiveness of Finnish stocks, particularly since the war with Ukraine started. This is not generally talked about much but it is likely one of the reasons for the poor performance of the market. Generally, we as Finnish investors, do not see this risk the same way as we are used to it and have lived with it for centuries.
