Sjekk ut niva.no/urban og lær mer.

Rachel Karasik, researcher at NIVA's section for International Environment and Development, is a guest in the newest episode of Pine Forest Media's Plastic Podcast 📻! The episode delves deep into the life cycle of plastic 🧴. It's about the negative impacts of plastic, but also about acknowledging the economic advantages that make plastic so integral to various industries, it's about how plastic production disproportionately affects marginalized communities, and it's about innovative approaches like extended producer responsibility. Don't miss it 👂!

🦠 3. Bruk DNA-metoder for å kartlegge tarens mikroliv.

Global Dialogue i dag!
Just over two weeks to go until the Global Dialogue on Sustainable Ocean Development in Bali 🌊 🐟 🦀 Together with our colleagues from the National Centre for Coastal Research (NCCR) in India, the Norsk institutt for vannforskning (NIVA) will host a side event at the Conference to share ocean ecosystem accounting experiences from India and Norway. NCCR and NIVA are working together on the Indo-Norwegian Collaboration Project on Ecosystem Services and Accounting (INECO). INECO is developing pilot ecosystem accounts for the Coringa mangroves in India. We look forward to sharing our experiences with the global ocean accounting community at the 5th Global Dialogue. Come and join us at our side event on ‘Ocean ecosystem accounting experiences from India and Norway – different contexts, shared challenges’. 🗺 Where and when: 3 July 2024, The Meru Sanur, Bali, Indonesia Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) #5thGD #OceanAccounts #BeyondGDP #SustainableOceanEconomy

🌏 How can data help countries prepare for the Global Plastic Treaty?📝 Yesterday at the Global Dialogue on Sustainable Ocean Development, participants joined the training session: "Developing Plastics Accounts to Deliver the Global Plastic Treaty", hosted by the Global Ocean Accounts Partnership (GOAP) Secretariat. During this session, participants previewed the GOAP Secretariat’s recently developed “Data Checklist” 📋. This checklist is designed to assist countries in compiling data on the full lifecycle of plastics, from production to leakage in the environment, in preparation for the @UNEA Global Plastic Treaty ♹🍬. This comes in the lead-up to the final round of Treaty negotiations which will take place in South Korea this November. During the training session, participants applied the Data Checklist to their own national contexts, learning how to gather data from various sources and sectors and where challenges may lie. Participants also heard from experts who have accounted for their plastic waste in Sri Lanka (Randika Jayasinghe) and South Africa (Conrad Sparks). Accurate data is crucial to understand the scale of the plastic problem and design effective solutions. This training session was led by Randika Jayasinghe, Eliza Northrop, Conrad Sparks and Bella Charlesworth, with support from Jordan Gacutan and Dr Rebecca Shellock 👩🏽🏫

At the forefront of research to map PFAS contamination in food and packaging 🥗 ⚠️ In the Screenfood project, NIVA is collaborating with around 30 European laboratories and key players in the food industry, such as Barilla, the world's largest pasta producer. Together, we are developing methods to identify and measure levels of harmful PFAS substances in food and packaging. 🍴♻️ PFAS can lead to health problems and accumulate in nature and in the food we eat. Now that the EU is considering stricter restrictions on PFAS, this type of research becomes even more important. 🌿⚠️ NIVA is a leading laboratory for chemical measurements. With our expertise and methods, we can analyze and detect all types of organically harmful chemicals. In this way, we can help identify contaminants, which in turn contributes to safer food and a cleaner environment. Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/d2VaxBx8

I noen innsjøer tar vannplanten krypsiv helt over.
