CO2 Utilisation is the gateway to large-scale engineered sequestration.” 🚨In gasworld ‘s recent webinar, discussions on Carbon Capture Utilisation (CCU) vs. Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) underscore the critical role of Direct Air Capture (DAC) in uniting these approaches. DAC technology bridges the gap by capturing atmospheric CO₂, making it available both for utilisation and for long-term storage. 💡 Utilisation does not serve the purpose of being a climate solution if the CO2 originates from fossil fuels. Atmospheric CO2, on the other hand, provides a “closed-loop” opportunity where emissions can be captured, used, and recycled without adding to the overall atmospheric load. ➡️ Skytree’s VP of Strategy, Bjørn Utgård emphasized this potential, highlighting DAC’s unique capability to support resilient, climate-positive industrial applications. For industries facing CO₂ supply risks and power-to-X projects, DAC-captured CO₂ provides new opportunities for creating sustainable synthetic fuels, like methanol and aviation fuels, and supports industries transitioning toward carbon neutrality. ♻️🌱 Read the full article and access the webinar here: https://lnkd.in/e7CdSnqB #carboncapturestorage #carboncaptureutilization #carbonneutrality #directaircapture #skytree #gasworld

💡 With COP29 kicking off this week and this year on track to be the hottest ever, it is pertinent to ask: is targeting net zero really enough? In a recent Forbes article featuring Skytree CEO Rob van Straten, he talks about “Scope Zero”. While net zero focuses on reducing future emissions, scope zero calls for the removal of past emissions—the CO₂ that has already been released into the atmosphere over previous decades resulting in the present climate crisis. What are its climatic and technological implications? And who’s pioneering this goal? 🤔 Full article can be found in the comments.

🎉 Over 1,660 kg of atmospheric CO₂ captured and delivered to grow cucumbers in 166 days! From January to June earlier this year, Skytree entered into a pilot project with Wageningen University & Research, and the official numbers are here. Using the Skytree Cumulus unit, the horticulture test centre achieved 71kg/sqm of cucumber yield (177 pieces/sqm) over the 166 days of cultivation. 🤔 What do these numbers imply? These numbers are in line with the industry-standard OCAP pipeline system and prove how Direct Air Capture (DAC) can support reliable CO₂ supply while encouraging controlled environment agriculture (CEA) to shift away from fossil fuels. Published by Kas als Energiebron at WUR, a more detailed report will follow this one at the end of the year as the trial continues, which will list out not just the results, but also the implications for CEA globally. We’re proud to be pioneering this sustainable solution with WUR and the Kas als Energiebron program. 🌟 For us at Skytree, this Initial data is extremely encouraging and paves the way for our next-generation Stratus unit aimed at greenhouses, optimized for larger-scale CO₂ needs. 🙏

🌍 Europe is uniquely positioned to lead the global transition to a low-carbon economy while maintaining the strength of its established industries. Climate technologies like Direct Air Capture are vital to sustainably transition key sectors in using or permanently storing atmospheric CO2. We need to drive innovation that ensures both our economic resilience and climate goals, on both EU and national level. As Draghi's report rightly emphasized, fostering innovation is critical to sustaining growth. In today’s landscape, we can’t afford to separate sustainability from competitiveness—they are intertwined. A big thank you to all the panelists Jeannette Baljeu, Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy, Sigrid Johannisse and Mark Dijk for such an insightful discussion, and to Publyon EU for the invitation and connecting innovators and policymakers on this crucial topic.
Sustainability vs. Competitiveness: two sides of the same coin? That was the main question tackled at our event on Wednesday. Let's recap the highlights in a language we all understand: ⚽ Margreet Lommerts kicked off by setting the stage, followed by Daniel Mes, who pointed out that the 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆 of the European Commission needs to evolve to realise the climate goals while maintaining competitiveness. Our panelists Jeannette Baljeu, Gerben-Jan Gerbrandy, Sigrid Johannisse, Mark Dijk, Amanda Fernandes, led by Jasper Nagtegaal, then passed the ball on key topics such as the Draghi report, the role of 𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗲𝘀 such as Direct Air Capture, and the essential ingredients for the upcoming 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹. They highlighted the need for robust energy infrastructure, financing tools that promote innovation, and simplified regulations. So, what’s the answer to the big question? Just like in any sport, success comes from teamwork - in this case, as a European team. After the Green Deal, we find ourselves in the second half, where 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝟮𝟳 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝘀𝘆𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗼𝗳𝗳, rather than trying to fix issues afterward. And industry, including emerging companies, can’t sit on the sidelines; they need to be active players on the field. At Publyon, we are committed to connecting policymakers and industry stakeholders to ensure Europe scores big in the transition to a green economy 🌍 Here is a short recap of the key topics discussed:
