What is a caseload midwife? 🤨 During our recent meetups with moms-to-be, I found out that many expectant moms had never heard of caseload midwifery—an approach to maternity care that offers more personalized, continuous support through every stage of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. In fact, I only learned about it myself very recently! 😅 To dive deeper, I had the pleasure of interviewing Caroline Kooij, caseload midwife at Kairos Collectief, in Amsterdam. We explored what it means to work with a caseload midwife and discussed the importance of "continuity of care"—having the same midwife by your side throughout the entire journey. 𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗮 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆. My father had 11 siblings, and my mother 7. Growing up, I was surrounded by aunts and uncles, in a world where everyone looked out for and took care of each other. When I became a mother, in a foreign country—far from that support system—it felt like hitting a wall. We’re not meant to raise children alone. It really does take a village. And that hard truth is one of the reasons I founded Parentally. I explored this and more with Ana Amrein, Co-founder of Efecto Colibrí, on Proyecto Co, their podcast featuring changemakers driving positive change.
