Resources for Marburg Virus Disease
Rwandan health authorities are intensifying outbreak control efforts following the detection of Marburg virus disease (MVD), with 62 cases confirmed and 15 deaths reported currently. MVD is a rare, severe viral hemorrhagic fever similar to Ebola. To date, no cases of MVD related to this outbreak have been reported in the United States, and the anticipated risk of Marburg virus disease to the general population in the United States is low. However, health care workers in the United States should be on the lookout for potential cases of MVD. Review NETEC’s resources for MVD, including the Health Care Facility Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF) Preparedness Checklist and Viral Hemorrhagic Fevers (VHFs) Matrix, both available for download at the link below.
Handle with Care: Special Pathogens Waste Management
Join a webinar on Friday, October 25, at 1 p.m. EDT to learn about special pathogens waste management. Waste management is a critical component of caring for patients potentially infected with special pathogens. This webinar will provide insights into properly classifying waste and practical approaches to developing and implementing comprehensive waste management plans. Expert panelists will discuss building strong partnerships with internal teams and external waste vendors for seamless, compliant waste handling. By the end of this session, participants will be better prepared to manage the complexities of special pathogens waste management, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.
National Special Pathogens System (NSPS)
COVID-19 exposed serious gaps in the nation’s health care system, leading to the deaths of more than one million Americans and counting. NSPS was designed in response, to prepare the country for the next large-scale outbreak.
