From Chimoio, our team is hard at work planning field activities in the Gorongosa-Marromeu landscape as part of a USAID SPEED funded project. Today, we’re integrating and testing real-time data flows between our #central control and field operations, a key step in enhancing our ability to monitor, analyze, and respond to on-the-ground realities effectively. By bringing data-driven decision-making to the forefront, we’re pushing the boundaries of conservation and sustainable development in #Mozambique. This real-time integration will not only enhance operational efficiency but also support our mission of creating impactful solutions for communities and ecosystems alike. Exciting Progress in Angola! Data4MOZ is part of a consortium supporting the Angolan Institute for Biodiversity and Conservation Areas (INBAC) to strengthen Angola’s Protected Areas Systems through innovation and capacity development. Our focus? Streamlining #data, #information, and #geospatial technology to amplify INBAC’s mission of expanding protected area networks across Angola. This includes integrating local communities into the management framework—ensuring conservation efforts benefit both biodiversity and local livelihoods. This week, we kicked off in Quiçama National Park with valuable conversations alongside key partners and stakeholders in Luanda and Quiçama Municipality. #Data4Moz #Conservation #GBFF #GeospatialTechnology #GEF #CommunityIntegration #Angola #QuiçamaNationalPark #UNDP Antonio Inguane José Monteiro Déyril M Ibraimo Renaldo Francisco Margarida Pedro Victor Stélio Francisco Matsinhe UNDP Angola Global Environment Facility FAO The World Bank African Parks Network The Nature Conservancy Conservation International Wildlife Conservation Society WWF National Geographic UN-GGIM USAID SPEED USAID

In Africa #agriculture remains a critical driver of economic development, with rural communities and smallholder farmers at the heart of this activity. However, despite significant investments in agriculture, the benefits often fail to reach those who depend on it the most—our smallholder farmers. In #Mozambique, smallholder farmers are often grouped together under a single category. This broad approach has significant implications for decision-making and support strategies. At Data4MOZ, we believe that a more tailored approach is needed. That's why we are embarking on a new initiative to #digitize smallholder agriculture, using technology to profile farmers more accurately. By leveraging #ML and #AI, we aim to create detailed profiles that reflect the unique characteristics, needs, and potential of smallholder farmers. This will allow for more targeted interventions and smarter investments, ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. Through innovation and collaboration with our partners, #Data4Moz is committed to driving sustainable agricultural development in Mozambique. Wrapping up three days of productive discussions at the Seventh High-Level Forum on UN-GGIM in Mexico City 🇲🇽. The message was clear: Accelerating Implementation; Achieving Resilience. Key takeaways: - We must enhance our collaboration mechanisms at local, regional, and global levels. - We need to maximize the use of spatial data for public good. - We must embrace an ecosystem approach to foster innovation. - We should leverage emerging technologies like GeoAI to develop applications that meet end-user needs. As part of the amazing team at Data4MOZ and Data4Angola, I'm incredibly proud of the work we're doing alongside our partners, including the government and local communities. Our commitment has always been to provide #reliable, #timely, and #accurate data to support effective responses to the challenges facing our society. This forum has once again reinforced our role as a key enabler of data-driven solutions in #Mozambique and #Angola. Last week’s global discussions on #Climate, #Biodiversity, and extreme #poverty highlighted a collective commitment to addressing these pressing issues while ensuring no one is left behind. A key milestone was the adoption of the Global Digital Compact at the #UNGA79, focused on bridging the digital and innovation divide. At Data4MOZ, we are leveraging granular data to support coastal communities, such as those in the Bazaruto Seascape, who are at the forefront of climate and economic challenges. Data-driven solutions play a crucial role in building resilience for these communities. In partnership with African Parks Network, Conservation International, Finnish Environment Institute (Syke) - Suomen ympäristökeskus (Syke) and Parque Nacional Arquipélago Bazaruto, we’re working with local communities to explore the potential of a sustainable blue economy. This includes coastal and fisheries resources mapping, which harnesses both ocean and terrestrial ecosystems for sustainable economic growth while tackling climate change. By integrating #data, #technology, and local knowledge, our work in the Bazaruto Seascape empowers communities to adapt, thrive, and protect their natural resources for future generations. Encouraging Insights from Our Youth Employment Data - YATLAS As we continue to gather data on #youth employment and #employability across Mozambique, the results are increasingly insightful. While there is a clear distinction between rural and urban settings, one thing remains constant: youth #employment is a critical challenge in both areas. Our recent findings in Cheringoma reveal gaps and opportunities that require a shift in approach. It's clear that localized, targeted efforts are essential—especially in supporting #women and youth in these regions. As we move into the next phase of our mission, we are committed to strengthening our #data collection efforts and providing a more nuanced analysis at the regional, provincial, and community levels.
