Rap Life is home to hip-hop’s heavy hitters and its vanguard—the songs that speak to the moment and define the culture today. This week, that means new music from Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre’s just-released collaborative album Missionary, including a song called “Guns N Smoke” that features multiple generations of Dr. Dre protégés. On it are verses from Big Snoop, of course, but also 50 Cent and Eminem, three of rap’s all-time biggest stars, MCs who aren’t likely to have gotten anywhere near as far as they did without the help of the good Doctor. And while we don’t hear the voice of Dre himself on the track, we can feel his genius in the form of some arrestingly dynamic production that also boasts a sample of The Notorious B.I.G. The directive on this one was clearly legends only. Listen to “Gunz N Smoke” on the Rap Life playlist, and if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
