An Eldridge man is facing charges after he allegedly battered a woman, breaking her nose and fracturing her jaw and eye socket before confining her against her will in their apartment, authorities said.
Joseph Aaron Hollingshed, 43, is charged in Scott
County District Court with one count of kidnapping, a Class A felony under Iowa law that carries a sentence of life in prison. Hollingshed also is charged with one count of domestic abuse assault-second offence, an aggravated misdemeanor that carries a prison sentence of two years. He also is charged with obstruction of emergency communications, a simple misdemeanor that carries a jail sentence of up to 30 days.
According to the arrest affidavits filed by Scott County Sheriff's deputy Mason Wilson, deputies were sent to investigate a domestic disturbance at 6:11 p.m. Friday at an apartment building at 1 Park View Drive.

Deputies met with Hollingshed. When asked where the woman was, Hollingshed told deputies that she was not inside the residence and had left with someone else.
While the deputies were speaking with Hollingshed, the victim walked out of the bathroom where Hollingshed had confined her with no way to call 911. Deputies noted that the woman's face was bloody and swollen.
According to the affidavits, Hollingshed punched the woman multiple times with a closed fist to the point where she lost consciousness. This occurred outside the apartment complex. He then dragged the woman into the apartment they shared and confined her to the bathroom.
In addition to a broken nose and a fractured jaw and orbital eye socket, deputies said the victim also suffered from a possible brain bleed. The woman told deputies she believed Hollingshed was going to kill her and requested a protection order.
During a first appearance on the charges Saturday in district court, Magistrate Peter Gierut scheduled a preliminary hearing in the case for Nov. 26.
Hollingshed was being held Saturday night in the Scott County Jail on a cash-only bond of $100,000 set by Gierut.
On Jan. 1, 2001, Hollingshed was arrested on a charge of first-degree armed robbery. On May 17, 2001, a Scott County jury found him guilty of the charge. On June 8, 2001, District Judge Nancy Tabor sentenced Hollingshed to 25 years in prison, with a mandatory minimum of 70%, or 17 ½ years.
Hollingshed was placed on work release on Feb. 11, 2019, and then placed on parole shortly thereafter, according to Iowa Department of Corrections electronic records. He was released from parole last year on Jan. 23, 2023.
