ICARD — The East Burke boys basketball team grabbed its first win of the winter on Tuesday night, earning a 62-49 nonconference victory over visiting St. Stephens.
EBHS’ lead was 11-5 at the end of the first quarter, 28-12 at halftime and 43-33 at the end of the third period. EB (1-1) owned the final frame by a 19-16 margin.
Barger Shook was the leading scorer for the Cavaliers with 17 points.
Burns 82, Patton 62
The Panthers (1-2) fell in nonconference play on the road in Lawndale on Tuesday.
PHS trailed throughout the game, falling behind 18-12 after a quarter, 38-29 by halftime and 63-38 following the third period before the host Bulldogs surrendered a 24-19 advantage during the final frame.

The Lady Panthers (1-2) were dealt a mercy-rule nonconference defeat on the road in Lawndale on Tuesday.
PHS’ deficit was 14-2 at the end of the first quarter, 26-4 at halftime and 35-6 after three periods before the host Lady Bulldogs led the final frame 15-4 under a running clock.
Avery County 60, NCSSM-Morganton 6
The Lady Dragons (0-4, 0-1 WHC) dropped their conference-opener on the road in Newland on Tuesday, trailing 24-0 after a quarter and 45-2 by halftime to start the running clock, then falling behind 49-2 after three frames before the host Lady Vikings led the fourth frame by an 11-4 margin.
Ava Hiatt, Will Levine and Sophia Poingue led NCSSM-Morganton with two points apiece.
Hallie Johnson and Marley Jones paced Avery County, both scoring 14 points.
Patton 48, NCSSM-Morganton 36
The Lady Panthers earned a homecoming win in their home-opener on Monday in Morganton, jumping ahead 11-9 after one period, 27-15 by halftime and 39-25 after three quarters before the visiting Lady Dragons paced the fourth period 11-9.
Leah Clark led PHS with 11 points. The hosts also received offensive contributions from Melina Bernabe (eight points), Hayden Hein (eight), Emma Rolland (six), Aniya Williams (six), Karson Pinkerton (four), Hayden Carlson (two), Mia Chapman (two) and Katrina Vu (one).
NCSSM-Morganton was led by double-digit scorers Hannah Xu (12 points) and Sequoia Wilson (10). Also scoring for the Lady Dragons were Poingue (six points), Levine (five) and Zoe Shuta (three).
