ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Gavin Brindley of the University of Michigan ice hockey team was named the Big Ten Player of the Year as the all-conference awards were announced on Tuesday (March 19) on Big Ten Network.

Joining Brindley as a first-team selection are Rutger McGroarty and Seamus Casey, as the Wolverines make up half of the selections. Dylan Duke captured second-team honors while T.J. Hughes and Frank Nazar III earned honorable mention nods. Jacob Truscott is Michigan's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.

Brindley also captured the Big Ten Scoring Champion title with 29 points scored against conference opponents in 23 games. He is fifth Wolverine to accomplish the feat, joining Matty Beniers (2022), Cooper Marody (2018), Kyle Connor (2016) and Zach Hyman (2014).

Michigan's three first-team selections are the most since 2016 when the Wolverines had four with Connor, JT Compher, Tyler Motte and Zach Werenski.

Brindley has 51 points in 36 games, averaging 1.42 points per game. He has a team-best 24 goals, 27 assists, is +19, while collecting at least one point in 27 games with 15 multiple-point games. Brindley has 18 points on the nation's top power play, including six goals and adds 23 blocked shots. The Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick was an honorable mention selection last year. Brindley is the second Wolverine to be named B1G Player of the Year joining Kyle Connor (2016). Six other players have been finalists for the award.

McGroarty ranks fourth in the nation in points per game at 1.59 ppg, scoring 16 goals and 35 assists. A two-time National Player of the Month honoree, he has had points in 25 of 32 games and is on a seven-game point streak. The Winnipeg Jets draft pick has recorded 16 multiple-point games and has a team-best +21 on-ice rating. He's tallied three game-winning goals and has 20 power-play points including six man-advantage goals. McGroarty was named to the B1G All-Tournament team last season.

Casey leads the defensemen in the NCAA with 44 points, collecting 37 assists and seven goals. He has 45 blocked shots, is a +10. Casey has had at least one point in 27 games and is currently on a four-game streak. The New Jersey Devils draft pick has 22 power-play points this season. Casey was on the B1G All-Freshman team and All-Tournament teams last season.

Duke is another Wolverine that is over a point per game, with 42 points in 37 games. He's scored 21 goals, including a team-high 10 on the power play and added 21 assists. Duke has scored six game-winning goals this season, ranking fourth in the nation and scored two short-handed goals.

Hughes earns honorable mention honors for the second straight season. He is third on the team in scoring with 44 points, averaging 1.19 points per game. Hughes boasts a team-best 22 power-play points and has one of the best face-off numbers in the nation at 59 percent and 353 wins. Tabbed as one of the top undrafted free agents in college hockey, Hughes has 25 multiple-point games this season.

Averaging 1.00 point per game, Nazar has 37 points in 37 games off of 14 goals and 23 assists. He leads the team in face off wins with 358 and has won 54.1 percent, while scoring three game-winning goals. A Chicago Blackhawks draft pick, 11 of his points have come on the power play and he assisted on two short-handed goals as well.

Schifsky ranks third in the league in rookie scoring with 30 points, scoring 16 goals and 14 assists. A +15, he's had points in 20 games and recorded two three-point games this season.

Truscott, captain of Team No. 102, has played in all 37 games, and has 15 points and a team-high 51 blocked shots. He partnered with Werenski to provide hockey game day experiences to community organizations, meeting with each group after every home game.

Michigan will compete for its third straight B1G Tournament Championship on Saturday (March 23) and is ranked 10th in the nation.
