Future Audiences/Experiment:Add a Fact/FAQ

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Here are some answers to some basic questions about Add A Fact.

Is Add A Fact open source?

[edit]

Yes. You can see the code here and here.

What models does Add A Fact use?

[edit]

Generally Add A Fact uses llama3-70B though we sometimes also run it on OpenAI's GPT4o.

Does Add A Fact support Firefox?

[edit]

Not currently. For technical reasons the extension will not just work on Firefox due to some manifest 3 API's that Firefox doesn't support. Add A Fact is an experiment and if we were to decide to invest in it long term then having broader support would be a priority.

Update: Yes, found at this link.

Does Add A Fact work for other languages/wiki?

[edit]

Currently it only works for enwiki and for sources in English. This is just a limited experiment for the time being and starting on English Wikipedia was easiest for lots of reasons.

Does Add A Fact prevent abuse by users?

[edit]

We try to prevent abuse. To use the extension you must be an (auto)confirmed user. We also limit the number of times any individual can use the extension in a given day. We also show a warning if you try to use the extension on sources that Wikipedia deems less reliable.

Won't it be annoying having this on a talk page?

[edit]

We are aware that the current way of just adding the information to the talk page is potentially unhelpful for a number of reasons. We have ideas for how this could be made better, but we wanted to first test if there was interest in this kinda of contribution at all before figuring out the best place to put the information.
