Over 10,000 forcibly relocate in Cabo Delgado amid violent attacks
(MENAFN) In February, over 10,000 people were forced to flee their homes in Mozambique’s conflict-ridden northern province of Cabo Delgado, according to a report from the United Nations.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) indicated that 93% of these displacements were triggered by “attacks or fears of the attacks.”
The report emphasized that the displaced populations' most urgent needs are food and shelter.
Describing the situation as both “horrendous” and “concerning,” Inocencio Impissa, representative for the Council of Ministers, affirmed that the Mozambican government is actively collaborating with security forces to bolster protection for those affected.
Impissa stated: “Having this huge number of people displaced in a single month is very depressing. But with support from humanitarian agencies, we are making sure that those displaced by the conflict in the region are provided with food, shelter and medical care.”
