the radiologic and gross appearance of the lungs resulting from interstitial fibrosis and cystic dilation of bronchioles and distal air spaces; of unknown cause or a sequel of any of several diseases, including eosinophilic granuloma, sarcoidosis, and any interstitial lung disease.

The current binary reading, based on the presence or absence of honeycomb lung, potentially renders a disservice to clinicians who must make critical diagnostic and therapeutic decisions.
At the beginning of the past century, pathologists encountered a diffuse lung disease in postmortem examinations, where the lungs were shrunken, cystic, and accompanied by fibrosis (so-called honeycomb fibrosis or simply honeycomb lung) (Figure 2, A and B).
After 3 years of follow-up, HRCT revealed widespread, severe cystic fibrotic destruction characteristic of the honeycomb lungs. In this study, a 4-year-old boy with recurrent rash, cough, wheezing, and other symptoms for up to 1 year had not received regular treatment before admission to our hospital.
