A word of caution: all parts of
colchicums are poisonous.
Crocuses and
colchicum's, spring and autumn, both do best in an open, sunny, well-drained spot.
Most of the showy
colchicums that grace our autumn gardens are hybrids of
colchicum speciosum.
On the other hand,
colchicums with bare legs - their popular name is naked ladies - look shockingly nude.
A plant that never fails to delight is autumn crocuses or
Colchicum autumnale.
Elsewhere in the garden a swathe of collapsed aconitums was hiding the sudden annual appearance of a group of
colchicum flowers.
Colchicums produce masses of two foot tall foliage in spring and are only really suited to borders and fronts of shrubberies, never on rock gardens where they will swamp other spring gems.
Perhaps it's because I've always gardened in the North but
colchicums always seem to do poorly.
Plant autumn-flowering bulbs including Nerine bowdenii and
colchicums.

colchicums in bare soil between shrubs to add a splash of colour in autumn.
A These are autumn crocus or
Colchicums which you plant now and will flower in September/October.
In the front garden, the autumn flowering Cyclamen hederifolium are blooming both on the rockery and in the wild flower meadows along with the
Colchicums. The green glossy leaves of the
Colchicums appear in the spring, then the flowers follow on their own at this time of year.
