Werner Hohenberger, MD, PhD (Complete Mesocolic Excision)

Professor Werner Hohenbreger was born in Borne July 3rd 1948 in Helmbrechts (Upper Franconia-Bavaria).

He developed the concept of complete mesocolic excision, a mesenteric-based approach to resection of cancer of the right colon. This is now standard practice in many institutes internationally. He has obtained widespread acclaim for this momentous achievement in surgical technique.

He continues strong interests in surgical anatomy and embryology. He is an honorary member of numerous surgical societies including the American College of Surgeons, the European Society of Coloproctology and the Chinese College of Surgeons. He has received dozens of national and international awards and was President of six international surgical societies.
