‘Time Travel is Dangerous’ Mini-Interview with actor Tom Lenk

Time Travel is Dangerous centers around friends Ruth and Megan who run a vintage shop in Muswell Hill. When they stumble across a time machine, it occurs to them that stock is much cheaper if they ‘borrow’ from the past – well, it’s free. They don’t want to change history, or rob banks, they just want to find a nice Victorian lamp or an authentic 80s bum bag without getting sucked into the hellish time-space vortex that is “the Unreason”. The thing is, Time Travel Is Dangerous.

The movie stars Johnny Vegas (Benidorm, Bleak House), Jane Horrocks (Absolutely Fabulous), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Gosford Park), Mark Heap (Spaced, Green Wing), Brian Bovell (Love Actually, Gimme Gimme Gimme), Tony Way (After Life, Game of Thrones), Guy Henry (Harry Potter, Bridgerton: Queen Charlotte), Laura Aikman (Gavin and Stacey, Archie), Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts, Stath Lets Flats) and is narrated by Stephen Fry.

Here at Love Horror we got a chance to quiz some of the creatives behind the brand new Sci-Fi comedy and run them through a set of quick fire questions.

Below are the answers from amazing actor and genuinely lovely guy Tom Lenk, who many people know from Buffy the Vampire Slayer as well as Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing, Room 104 and Transparent.

1. Tell us a bit about your involvement with Time Travel is Dangerous.
Tom Lenk: I play Alex, who is the inventor of a mostly functioning, safe-ish, invisibility garment and right hand man to Martin (Guy Henry). He lives and breathes T.E.S.T.I.S (the Technology, Engineering, Scientific Thought and Innovation Society) and channels all of his time and energy into furthering the club’s scientific agenda.

2. What was the best bit of making the movie?
Tom Lenk: Meeting this glorious cast and crew! I am an avid British Film and TV viewer, so getting to know and perform with this wonderful cast of character actors was truly an honor! And after viewing the short films that the movie is based on, I was an instant Ruth and Megan fan, so getting to befriend them was LIFE GOALS ACHIEVED! I loved working with our Director Chris Reading because his sense of humor and passion for vintage bric-a-brac, and retro vibes totally lined up with my own! And I shan’t forget to mention the Shakespeare Sisters who are talented filmmakers and lovely human beings who made my stay and filming experience in London such a dream!

3. After Time Travel is Dangerous what is your favourite Sci-Fi movie or TV show?
Tom Lenk: My favorites skew a little more Sci-Fi/Fantasy, but I really love a Japanese TV Drama called “Alice in Borderland” which has an apocalyptic Squid Games sort of vibe. And I love a Korean TV Drama called “Memories of the Alhambra” which stars two of my fave actors, Hyun Bin (Dreamy!) and Park Shin-hye (she’s sooo good!). I also really love Agatha All Along, The Witcher and very much into the new Star Trek shows especially Strange New Worlds! Wheee! I got to attend a panel with the cast last year in Beverly Hills and see the legendary Anson Mount hair in person. WOWOW!

4. In your opinion what is the greatest invention ever made and why?
Tom Lenk: Vaccinations and penicillin. We get the invention of the Small Pox vaccine in 1796. Vaccinations go into widespread use towards the end of the 1800’s and combined with developments in public health measures, the human life expectancy doubles around 1900. Then Penicillin is invented in 1928 and so begins a wave of medical advancements that have changed history forever! But also Ice Cream might be the greatest invention ever? And if we get a dog collar that allows humans and dogs to be able to talk to and understand each other, then that will be the greatest invention ever!

5. If you could go back in time where would you go and what would you steal?
Tom Lenk: I would really love to steal a whole house full of authentic first run Mid Century Modern furniture. The expensive stuff. I’d also steal the deeds to apartments in all my favorite cities, nothing too extravagant, so I could travel easily without the hassle of having to book hotels! I would also steal one of those unlimited American Airlines “Airpass” unlimited flights for life that orginally launched in 1981.

6 What’s next for you?
Tom Lenk: I’m a producer on a small indie horror movie called “She Did It” that is wrapping up post production soon. I’m also producing the live stage musical version of Felicia Day’s “The Guild” based on her popular web series, which we just premiered at famed L.A. comedy theater Dynasty Typewriter. This year I make my K-drama debut in “Tempest” for Disney+, and I’ll also be popping up in the Shakespeare Sisters next feature “The Upside of Unrequited.”

The hilarious new British Sci-Fi comedy Time Travel is Dangerous is in UK Cinemas from 28th March. Read our review HERE and find out more at www.timetravelisdangerous.com
