Chronology
The Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (commonly referred to as MSI) is the first cross-regional competition of the annual LoL Esports calendar. It features twelve teams, the winning teams from eight individual Riot Leagues Spring Splits and the runners-up from three (LCK, LPL, and LCS.) In addition the winner from the LEC Winter split is also qualified to the play-in stage. MSI 2024 is held in Chengdu, China at the Wuliangye Chengdu Performing Arts Center. The event runs between May 1st and 19th.
A new rule for 2024 is that the MSI champion will now earn direct qualification to the 2024 World Championship, guaranteeing an additional slot for its region. This rule will only apply if the winning team reaches the Playoffs in their domestic Summer split.
Additionally, the second best region in the final standings will also be granted an additional seed for its domestic league at Worlds. [1]

Trivia[edit]
- G2 Esports and T1 return to this year's MSI with the same rosters as in MSI 2023. In T1's case, this is the first time an organisation plays in the MSI for 3 consecutive years with the same roster (since MSI 2022).
- The winner from last year's MSI, JD Gaming, won't return to defend the title, as they failed to qualify after losing to Top Esports in the Lower Bracket Final in the LPL 2024 Spring Playoffs.
- Bin is the first player from LPL to play in 3 consecutive MSI.[5]
