A Long Island staple since 1940, Zorn’s of Bethpage has been preparing wholesome, homemade comfort food made fresh on the premises every day. Whether a simple bucket of chicken, family dinners, or even large special and corporate affairs, Zorn’s has become a tradition for many Long Islanders.
The family-owned business was started by Peter Zorn—a butcher by trade—w ho came from a farming family. Originally a poultry wholesaler, Peter opened a small retail store selling fresh turkeys and grocery staples. He then introduced take-out offerings, and was the first to offer rotisserie chickens cooked over an open flame. Peter also expanded his menu to include original recipes, homemade salads, and made-from-scratch meals using the freshest ingredients that busy families could eat at home, all while continuing to sell fresh poultry.
In the 1950s, the concept of catered meals took hold, followed by the addition of hot side dishes in the early 1990s.
While tradition has always been at the core of Zorn’s, the most significant change was in May 2019 with the opening a new building—with dining room—on the same property as the original Bethpage poultry farm.
Even with these changes and expansions, Zorn’s has stayed true to its core values and traditions. While many have shifted to mass production, Zorn’s continues to hand-peel potatoes, hand-roll dough, and prepare recipes as it always has.
