OpenVMS ('VMS Apertum') est systema internum pro multis utentibus? in memoria virtuali multirationis? conditum et ad usum in portione temporis?, ratione massarum?, et ratione transactionum? designatum. Primum editum est a Digital Equipment Corporation anno 1977 titulo VAX/VMS pro VAX, eius serie minicomputatrorum.[1][2][3] OpenVMS etiam in systemtibus DEC Alpha atque in familiis computatrorum HP in Itanium (familia microprocessoriorum) conditis operatur.[4] OpenVMS est systema internum proprietarium, sed perscriptiones codicis fundamentalis venumdantur.[5]
Nomen VMS ex virtual memory system ('systema memoriae virtualis'), locutione Anglica derivatur, propter unum ex eius principalibus proprietatibus architecturalibus.[6]
