Our collaboration with AboitizPower on the first-of-its-kind hillside solar farm at Cayanga in the Philippines is now complete! The Philippine government views solar plants as vital for energy security, hastening the nation’s energy shift. Despite competition with agriculture for flat lands, AboitizPower creatively explored mountainous terrain for a 90MW solar farm. As the owner’s engineer, we leveraged our knowledge of the local climate and site conditions to identify optimal locations to position panels for maximum solar yield. Our in-house automated tool, designed for quick terrain assessment and streamlined design optimisation, played a pivotal role in this process. The automated layout system tracks all individual panel data, providing crucial information for decision-making and maximising the panels’ performance. We are honoured to be awarded the top prize in the Energy Transition & Sustainability, Service & Solutions and Survive & Thrive/Optimisation categories at the Energy Industries Council (EIC) APAC Regional Awards 2023 for this intelligent workflow. I’m pleased to have recently been awarded the 2024 Institute of Acoustics Engineering Medal. The medal is awarded in even-numbered years to registered engineers at Chartered, Incorporated or Engineering Technician grade in recognition of their outstanding contribution in the field of acoustical engineering. It’s an honor to join Arup Legend Derek Sugden who was awarded the medal in 2012. I’ve had the privilege of working on incredible landmark projects around the globe in so many sectors that I enjoy and that make an impact on people’s lives including arts & culture, sports, education, transport, and the virtual and augmented worlds. I’m particularly proud to have led the development of the Arup SoundLab our immersive acoustic space which allows collaboration with clients to hear the sound of any their sonic environments - existing or conceptual. The Arup SoundLab recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. I’ve been a member of the Institute of Acoustics for over 30 years and as a graduate followed their CPD program to achieve Chartered Engineer status. The Institute has gone from strength to strength and has had an enormous positive impact on the consideration of acoustics across the built and natural environment. I’m proud of the collective achievements of all its members in this regard. The IOA celebrates its 50th Anniversary this year.
