J&K Snowboarders Make Debut At World Championship

Srinagar- In a historic feat for Indian snowboarding, the country made its debut at the World Snowboard Championship 2025 in St. Moritz, Switzerland. J&K athletes Zubair Ahmad Lone and Mehraj ud Din Khan, both hailing from Tangmarg, Kashmir, qualified and represented India in this prestigious international event, marking a significant milestone for the sport in the country.

Adding to J&K’s success in winter sports, another athlete, Syed Ishfaq Hussain from Check Ferozpora, Tangmarg, secured two bronze medals at the prestigious FIS Race 2025 held at Cedar Ski Resort, Lebanon, on 14th and 15th March.

Competing in the highly competitive Cross-Country Skiing events, Ishfaq displayed exceptional skill and determination, clinching both bronze medals in the 1.1 km Sprint category. His remarkable performance reflects his dedication and the growing potential of Indian athletes on the international skiing stage.

J&K Sports Council has successfully hosted five editions of Khelo India Winter Games at Gulmarg, which has significantly contributed to the prosperity of winter sports in the region.

Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, lauded the athletes for their outstanding performances, stating, “The achievements of our winter sports athletes reflect the immense potential of Jammu & Kashmir in the field of sports. The government remains committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and providing world-class training facilities to ensure our athletes continue to shine on the international stage.”
