Falls are one of the leading causes of fatal and nonfatal injuries among people aged 65 and older.

Customized, quality care is now more accessible with affordable, advanced AI solutions.

Senior Living and Memory Care communities urgently need better ways to confront the growing epidemic of unsupervised resident falls.

MOST FALL TECHNOLOGY IS OUTDATED

Common devices like call buttons, bed or chair sensors, and guard rails are restrictive, inaccurate, and don’t offer any insight into how falls occurred.

SKILLED NURSING SHORTAGES CONTINUE

Despite minimum staffing laws, communities struggle to attract and retain care teams. Nurses burn out faster when dealing with stressful situations like falls.

DECLINES IN CARE QUALITY CAN LEAD TO CLOSURES

Residents can’t afford a fall, and neither can community owners and operators. Resident falls can result in higher healthcare costs, financial penalties and reduced capacity.

We’re making an impact in senior living. Here’s how.

Identifying Hazards In Unreported Falls

Within days of installation at a 50-bed memory care facility in southern Oregon, KamiCare detected a resident fall in his bedroom. Facility care staff were notified of the fall and tended to him quickly.

When care staff arrived, the resident did not remember the fall or how it happened so he likely wouldn’t have reported it. Upon review of visual fall playback, the care team identified a small bedside rug that caused the tumble. They removed the rug and adjusted his living space to prevent future falls.

According to the community director, this incident would typically require an investigation report. However, because they quickly identified the contributing factor and applied the intervention, the resident’s well-being and safety improved with minimal time and resources required of care staff.

Detecting Intentional Self Lowering As a Pre-Cursor to Future Falls

At a 140-bed senior living community in Arkansas, KamiCare detected a resident struggling to rise from the floor after sitting down to put socks on.

With community care staff notified of the issue, they quickly tended to the resident to help him stand from his sitting position.

Staff is now aware of the resident’s limitation and is working to adjust his care plan as intentional self-lowering is often a precursor to more dangerous falls.

Identifying Physical Limitations That Require Care Plan Adjustments

At a boutique assisted living care home in Northern California, a resident with the intent to rise struggled to get out of bed.

KamiCare identified the resident rolling in bed with frustration and notified care staff. They helped the resident sit up without injury and adjusted her care plan with therapies to support her physical limitations.

Step 1: Installation & Setup

Community maintenance staff can easily install the KamiCare system by following the installation instructions.
Unobtrusive AI-equipped devices are installed in residents’ rooms – all it takes is basic, existing infrastructure like WiFi and electrical outlets. Devices with power over ethernet (POE) are also available.

Step 2: Fall Detection & Verification

In the event of a fall, KamiCare hardware automatically detects the incident with 99.5%* accuracy.

To verify the fall, an offsite expert remotely and securely views blurred footage. To protect the privacy and dignity of the resident, there is no personal information attached to the obscured video.

Step 3: Notification & Response

Once the fall is verified, care teams are notified via text, call, or email within 60 seconds. With assurance against false alarms, they can respond quickly and decisively to deliver prompt care. As a result, the resident experiences less distress and less time on the ground.

Step 4: Observe & Report

Staff can securely view clear, unobstructed footage to determine exactly how the fall occurred. They can then accurately communicate to families and fill out incident reports as needed.
Many communities have also used KamiCare insights to prevent future falls, reducing the overall amount of falls in their communities.

  • Enhanced Safety: Monitor for unexpected nighttime activity, such as wandering, and receive immediate alerts to potentially prevent a fall.

  • Peace of Mind: Opt-in to notifications through preferred channels — phone call, email, text or mobile app push messages.

  • Personalized Care: Customize bed exit detection sensitivity levels to suit individual needs, ensuring accuracy without unnecessary alarms.

  • Behavioral Insights: Track patterns of nighttime activity to gain valuable insights into sleep habits and potential health concerns.

  • No loud alarms: Other residents won’t be disturbed because with KamiCare, there are no in-room bed exit or fall detection alarms.
