Ruth Ray Jackson embraced her inauguration week theme, “Rooted in Pride, Rising with Purpose,” as she reflected on Langston University‘s rich legacy and committed to leading the institution forward during her Investiture Ceremony on Friday.
“This day is more than an investiture,” Jackson said. “It is a reflection of our collective journey and shared purpose.”
The ceremony marked her official installment as the 17th President of Langston University and symbolized her acceptance of the office’s responsibilities. The event featured a grand processional by faculty and visiting dignitaries in academic regalia, performances by the LU Concert Band and Choir and remarks from community leaders, elected officials and higher education representatives.
During the focal point of the ceremony, Jackson took the oath of office and accepted the Presidential Chain of Office and Mace, pledging to uphold Langston’s mission with integrity and dedication to academic excellence.
Jackson was appointed president in April 2024 after serving as interim president for a year. She is the second woman to hold the title.
“I accept this charge of leadership with deep gratitude and an unshakable resolve,” she said. “Together, we will rise, we will lead, and we will ensure that Langston University’s legacy endures for generations to come.”
