New Devlog! Beyond the Demo!

Apolysis (Demo)
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

It's been a long time since we've posted anything related to Apolysis so we wanted to fill you all in on what's been happening with this project.

Firstly, we've got a new member on our team, the lovely Claire! She was responsible for writing guidance for the demo. Now she's writing the script, doing some concept art, voice overs, and assisting with the production design. She's super lovely and has a lot of really awesome rad ideas and we're excited to show you what we're coming up with!

So, a little peek into our process. We had several meetings where we've story-boarded different ideas and concepts.

The demo ends with you descending in an elevator and you are in front of a giant fleshy statue that's speaking / beckoning to you. This statue is a representation of the entity that is this abandoned refinery. How do we connect the player with that entity in a more tangible way and progress the story?

Well. That section will have the first dialogue between the Seeker (the player) and the Goddess (the building, represented by this giant statue at this moment.) After the conversation, the statue crumbles, leaving only the head, with a hole in the eye-socket and the path to the next area is opened.

Walking into the Garden

This next area was designed with Hellenic architecture in mind. The area is also filled with suggestive/erotic imagery.  Like a sort of "Garden of Earthly Delights", except industrial, queer, and sexual. The sort of place the mind of a Goddess of metal, flesh, and concrete might dream up.

Nude statues near the reflecting pool

This next section will have the Seeker looking for various objects. These objects will be thrown into the reflecting pool in the main part of the garden.  Once you throw the objects into the pool you'll receive a vision of yourself transformed. A type of reality you can have through the Goddess' powers if you choose to proceed (you will be given a choice of whether to proceed after seeing these visions or turning back and leaving safely.) We currently have several different concepts for the seeker, all representing different realities she could attain.

Grove filled with strange writhing trees. An area that could contain a collectible.

After seeing this visions, you're given your choice of whether or not to continue your journey. If you choose to continue, the doors beyond the reflecting pool open and you can proceed to the next area.

A door depicting an erotic bas-relief

The door is suggestive of the themes to come in the next sections of the game.
