🌟 New Publication Alert 🌟 How do our senses shape our perception of time—and what happens when this ability is disrupted? 🕒 Our latest study, "𝙈𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙏𝙚𝙢𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙞𝙣 𝙎𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙯𝙤𝙥𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙖 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙞𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙚𝙧: 𝙄𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙋𝙨𝙮𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨" dives into the intricate world of temporal processing and its links to psychiatric symptoms. This work, conducted within the Antares #JointLab between Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and Department of Psychiatry of IRCCS Ospedale Policlinico San Martino, is the result of a collaborative effort by researchers Maria Bianca Amadeo, Andrea Escelsior, Davide Esposito, Alberto Inuggi, Silvio Versaggi, Giacomo Marenco, Yara Massalha, Jessica Bertolasi, Beatriz Pereira da Silva, Mario Amore, Gianluca Serafini, and Monica Gori. In the study, we examined how individuals with #schizophrenia and #bipolar disorder interpret the timing of sensory events. Participants were asked to judge the #temporal order of audio-tactile, visual-tactile, and audio-visual stimuli while also undergoing evaluations of depressive, manic, and psychotic symptoms. Our findings reveal that individuals with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder show #reduced precision in determining the order of sensory events—regardless of the type of sensory input. Remarkably, this temporal processing difficulty correlates positively with the severity of psychotic symptoms such as delusions and hallucinations. These insights underscore the role of low-level sensory alterations in shaping the experience of psychotic symptoms. One week after the #StartCup event, Davide Esposito and I had the great opportunity to present #SoBu at #FutureMatch with a dedicated demo stand! SoBu vince il premio Ri-Generazione 2024 di BIG: grande successo per l’evento più rigenerativo dell’anno. Il progetto SoBu è stato proclamato vincitore del premio Ri-Generazione 2025 durante l’evento #BIGINSIGHT 2025, un appuntamento annuale organizzato da Business Intelligence Group srl (BIG) che celebra l’innovazione e la rigenerazione economica e sociale. L’evento, svoltosi nella splendida cornice del Grand Hotel Baglioni di Firenze, ha riunito oltre 100 partecipanti tra cui imprenditori, giornalisti, esperti di sostenibilità e rappresentanti istituzionali. SoBu si è distinto per aver sviluppato un’applicazione innovativa che permette ai bambini non vedenti di partecipare a giochi di gruppo come “Un due tre stella”, “Acchiapparella” e “Nascondino”. Grazie a suoni e vibrazioni, l’app guida i bambini nei movimenti, favorendo lo sviluppo motorio e l’interazione sociale. Questa tecnologia, abbattendo le barriere della disabilità visiva, promuove l’inclusione e offre a questi bambini la possibilità di partecipare a un aspetto fondamentale dell’infanzia: il gioco. Nicolò Balzarotti, CTO di SoBu, ha espresso la sua emozione per il prestigioso riconoscimento: Siamo davvero onorati di aver ricevuto questo prestigioso premio, che è l’inizio di un progetto ambizioso di SoBu, che presto diventerà una startup e potrà concretamente aiutare i bambini non vedenti. Congratulations to everyone on the success of the Italy-Sweden Bilateral Workshop on Smart Sensor Technologies and Applications! It was an honor for #UVIP to be part of such an inspiring event and to witness such productive collaborations between key academic and institutional figures from both Italy and Sweden. During the workshop, Davide Esposito had the opportunity to represent the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia and Monica Gori, sharing insights on ongoing innovations and research.
