🚀 How can business-to-business (B2B) partnerships enhance skills-based migration? Global Skills Partnerships (GSPs) were designed to connect labour markets across borders, yet many pilots struggle to scale and engage employers effectively. 🔑 Could B2B models be the key to unlocking their full potential? In this new working paper 📑 Friedrich Poeschel, Colleen Boland, Tesseltje de Lange, Martin Ruhs and Ayse Saka-Helmhout: ➡️ explore how private sector actors are already operating in similar setups, identifying key factors for success and policy levers to ensure GSPs work for businesses, workers, and both origin and destination countries. ➡️ conduct a SWOT analysis, outline key B2B criteria, and offer insights for policymakers, businesses, and NGOs interested in innovative labour mobility solutions. 🔎 Read the paper: https://loom.ly/g8U8wTw This paper is part of the Horizon Europe project: Global Strategy for Skills, Migration and Development

I’m really happy to share with you some pics and vibes of my recently experience in the #WinterAcademy at the European University Institute organised by the Migration Policy Centre staff. Hosted in the beautiful landscape of Fiesole (Florence), it was an inspiring week where academics, researchers, public officers from national and EU institutions, and IOs as well as practitioners of CSOs and NGOs, met together in order to share and build knowledges about #migration through spireted discussions, debates and working groups. The focus was on “What the world think about Migration?” and all experts involved brought brilliant insights: Andrew Geddes, Lorenzo Piccoli, Alexander Kustov, Leila Giannetto, Luigi Achilli, Kristin Fabbe, Dr. Lenka Schillaci Dražanová, James Dennison, Martin Ruhs and others. Shoutout to my lovely collegues of this enriching experience: Sergej Kjartan Artamonov, Alice Craft MA, Yodit Estifanos,Therese Nicole Franklin, Anastasia Grinayt, Nawel Hafid, Jean-Baptiste Houriez, Karolin M. I recently attended the #WinterAcademy hosted by the Migration Policy Centre at the European University Institute in Florence. "WHAT THE WORLD -really- THINKS ABOUT MIGRATION," brought together amazing professionals, public servants from national governments and EU institutions, from NGOs and International organizations, and researchers from the best Universities, all passionate by their engagement for migration management in the EU and around the world. Allow me to tell you more about it. Under the maestria of Lorenzo Piccoli , for a week we explored : The concept of SALIENCE, introduced to us by Professor Andrew Geddes, deeply resonated with us ("Warriors of Salience » is the name of our WhatsApp group). This concept embodies how an issue matters and remains top of mind for citizens, which is particularly relevant in the rise of anti-immigration political parties. The first reception of displaced people in Greece was another really interesting topic discussed. Kristin Fabbe's extensive on the ground experience resonated with my personal experience with the Afghan rescue efforts in 2021. The quality of her testimony is matched only by the high relevance of her research. Leila Giannetto presented her project Protecting Irregular Migrants in Europe (PRIME), with her analysis of the legislative evolution in Italy and its consequences. Her work underscores the importance of understanding the broader implications of policy decisions on integration. Measuring the effectiveness of communication about migration and understanding public opinion response to it were key themes explored by James Dennison. He made us identify the role of values and emotions in shaping individuals' acceptance and understanding. Leverage of acceptance over migration is a complex task, as discussed by Martin Ruhs. He addressed the critical question of what kind of migration policies citizens desire and underscored the impact of public attitudes on the feasibility of policies. He also discussed innovative survey methodologies to capture public opinion, highlighting the gap between reel and perceive public sentiment on migration. Finally Alexander Kustov explored the acceptability of migration policies in the US, highlighting how national interest drives public opinion. His research made me wonder about the potential impacts of a full-scale Trump migratory policy. His book, "How Democracies Can Make Immigration Popular » took the US pulse before those elections. Engaging with these high-level researchers has been a transformative experience, resonating deeply with my personal journey and passion for migration studies. It has reinforced my commitment to contribute to this field. I have applied for the PhD program at the EUI, one of the best universities in the world, and hope to begin as a candidate from September 2025 onward.

Next Migration Working Group ➡️ Join this session to explore political and societal dimensions of migration and integration in #Germany. The event will feature two paper presentations: 🔹 The first will examine the political and administrative factors driving locally divergent approaches to implementing #citizenship law. 🔹 The second will explore how #media framing has evolved and influenced societal attitudes toward migrant #workers.
