It’s Valentine’s Day! That time of year when lovebirds post couple selfies faster than you can say “uwu,” restaurants hike up prices like rent and roses become more expensive than therapies.

And if you have a date or someone to celebrate the day with, this day might be your jam. But for the singles out there, it can be like watching rom-coms while eating ice cream in PJs, surrounded by tissues.

But some GenZ don’t think so. There are people out there who love to fall in love with fictional characters. Instead of moping, they’re out there creating fan art and writing fanfiction. They may be living in fantasy but they’re owning it, expressing themselves and having a blast doing it.

Valentine's Day 2024. Despite facing ridicule, Luna’s unwavering kindness and open-mindedness make her a truly lovable character.

We spoke to some people out there and asked which fictional character would they swipe right for Valentine’s Day. And the answers are so relatable that you’ll feel seen.

Festive offer

I would swipe right on Damon Salvatore (Vampire Diaries). His bad boy and protective nature in a black leather jacket is to fall for!

Aparna Singh, 24, campaign manager

Atlas Corrigan from ‘It Ends With Us’. He is the greenest green flag ever, soft, sensitive and as human as one can be.

Most likely Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter. She has the best perspective among all the others in Harry Potter. I think she literally sees the world in a different way. She’s kind to animals and that’s a plus.

Sonali Nahar, 24, senior associate Amazon India

Captain Hong from ‘Hometown Cha Cha Cha’. His kindness, sincerity, sense of humour and cute dimples at work won me over in just a few episodes! Another plus factor for Chief Hong is that he is not just brilliant but knows everything and does almost all kinds of jobs.

Valentine's Day 2024. Draco Malfoy, the platinum-haired nemesis of Harry Potter, surprisingly boasts a dedicated fanbase.

Valentine's Day 2024. Claire Dunphy juggles motherhood, ambition, and Phil’s goofiness with caffeine-fueled determination.

Valentine's Day 2024. Chief Hong is a true jack-of-all-trades. He’s skilled in carpentry, design, cooking, and seemingly everything else! This impressive talent pool makes him not only helpful but also admirable.

Aditya Banik, 24, receptionist

Claire from ‘Modern Family’. I like her character, love the way she handles her house and herself all together good humour too. I’d swipe Maeve from ‘Sex Education’ and ‘Elaine’ from Seinfeld too!

Anant Prasad, 20, student

Hermione Granger. She’s smart, beautiful and the best.

Medha Kartha, 22, reputation analyst

I have to go back to my roots, to my childhood and my first crush Draco Malfoy. I read fanfictions as well. And some of them were so well written I fell in love.
