He accused Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar of arbitrarily expunging critical portions of speeches made by opposition members, undermining their voices. Additionally, Kharge criticised Dhankhar for making unilateral decisions on important issues, such as relocating statues and altering security measures, raising alarms about the erosion of democratic processes within the Rajya Sabha.
In the Parliament, the face-off between BJP MPs and Opposition MPs continued today, with Rajya Sabha being adjourned for the day amid uproar over the alleged nexus between US hedge fund tycoon George Soros and Sonia Gandhi, Adani row among other issues. Lok Sabha proceedings continued and discussion on the Disaster Management (Amendment) Bill is underway. Meanwhile, Dhankhar has declined the notice filed by Opposition MPs seeking discussion on alleged derogatory remarks made by Allahabad HC judge. Terming the notice filed by Opposition MP Renuka Chowdhury to be in transgression of rules, Vice President Dhankhar has declined the demand. The Opposition MPs created ruckus over various issues including Adani row, farmers distress, increasing crime rates in Delhi.
Bills in Parliament today: Nearly three months after the Union Cabinet accepted the recommendations of the high-level committee chaired by former President Ram Nath Kovind on holding simultaneous polls, it approved two Bills on Thursday — one Constitutional amendment Bill to conduct elections for the Lok Sabha and all state assemblies together, and another ordinary Bill to align elections for assemblies in Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir. The two Bills, it is learned, are likely to be introduced in the ongoing Parliament session.
