How are knowledge management and entrepreneurship related to business performance? How does the family influence the above relationships? To answer these questions we performed a study to firms belonging to Family Business Regional Associations. The methodology used to analyze these relationships is based on a structural equation approach (SEM), specifically Partial Least Squares (PLS). The main value of this study is the proposition of two models. The first model analyzes the relationship among Knowledge Transfer (KT), Entrepreneurial Orientation (EO) and Performance (PERF). The second model studies the Family Influence (FI) as a moderating variable of such relationships. As conclusion, in these family firms KT has a significant positive effect on EO, and the latter on PERF. FI strengthening moderates the relationship between KT ...

The authors test its main predictions by conducting an experiment with 75 subjects.FindingsA theoretical prediction that misalignment between children and founder leads to outcomes without intergenerational succession, or to outcomes with intergenerational succession that are not family optimal. These predictions are buttressed by our experiment, which also found evidence that the family optimal outcome is focal when there are multiple equilibria.Research limitations/implicationsNo light is thrown on the sources of cultural (mis)alignment, but only on some of its consequences. Further studies of a different nature are needed to bet...

An internet‐based technology platform, with a registered brand, has been set up and is currently functioning (www.redkognopolis.org). One of the main findings of the case concerns the use of key organizations. Certain aspects have been identified which need to be improved in the future.Research limitations/implicationsAlthough the interpretations offered are plausible in the context of the case studies, it may not be correct to generalize to other situations.Originality/valueThe proposal has introduced several innovative elements: it is a network, where the city entities work together by sharing...

The purpose of this paper is to propose and test a model for evaluating the potential of municipal web sites.Design/methodology/approachIn this work an objective investigation of the issue has been conducted by manually accessing and evaluating 84 European municipal web sites. Quality of web home pages was determined using an original Web Assessment Index, which focuses on four categories: accessibility, speed, navigability and content.FindingsA detailed report of the results arising from this investigation is presented and systematically analyzed.Originality/valueThe most valuable output from this paper is not the ability to identify the best sites, but to see how each municipal site is compared to related sites and to spot ideas and practices that can improve city ...
