I recently had the opportunity to engage in a thought-provoking table talk organised by ETHRWorld and Darwinbox on skill-based talent management, and it was a transformative experience. The session shed light on how organisations are evolving from traditional role-based structures to more agile, skill-focused models, ensuring that talent is effectively matched with organizational needs. One of the key insights I gained was the critical role of skill mapping within a skill-based organisation. Downsizing done right. In April this year, Anomaly was handed a rather unusual mandate from the HR Head in India of a billion dollar tech company. The mission? Downsize a specific department—a team of 24. This was our biggest client, a titan we've been serving for almost half a decade now. We asked - why us? And here’s the verbatim from the client “The reason I signed up with Anomaly was the way you showcased your business operations - You are an Anomaly. You do things differently; you approach a situation from a unique perspective and you take the path less travelled.” He remembered exactly what we pitched. He goes on to say “We need you to take the reins in this scenario as we do not wish that some of our very deserving team members are left out to dry. And I know that you will deliver.” We managed to place a few candidates through Anomaly, however, with the stakes sky-high, we knew a standard approach wouldn’t cut it. We needed a game-changing strategy. We went back to the drawing board and whipped up a plan. We turned competitors into collaborators, forming an alliance that placed 22 out of 24 team members in new roles from April until now. Yes, you heard that right. Competitors turned allies. Delivering stellar results. What did we gain? Trust from our client, respect from our allies, and sheer joy from the candidates. We invested our time and effort, and the returns were priceless. Being an Anomaly means going beyond the norm. It's about walking the extra mile, stepping into the shoes of our clients and candidates, and redefining success. Salaried employees' finances are getting squeezed due to direct , indirect taxes, rising healthcare costs(India has one of the highest medical inflation rates in Asia). 😮 On top of this , they incur expenses for OPD treatments like general physician consultation, dental consults , pediatrician, gynecology etc. Medicines, lab tests are expensive too. 🙄 It's heartening to see that organizations/HR leaders are acknowledging that this is a key pain area for employees and are introducing OPD benefits along with the standard health cover. Slow down and you get run over........... BS. Pure BS. SLOW & steady don’t matter in a hustle culture. Does it? As an assessment of impact delivered, the value created or simply performance, speed is held in great stature. The other day, even Swiggy CEO Rohit Kapoor shared his opinion on the prevalent hustle culture. We are usually judged on: How quick is the go-to-market effort? How many cold calls/emails were sent in an hour? How many sales were closed in a month? How many hours do you work in a day? How sexy it may sound, the hyper-active effort, more often than not, culminates in fatigue, burnout, anxiety, low-productivity, poor decisions and negatively affects overall well-being (mental health). I always ensure walking (as much as possible) to explore a place I am visiting. Taking a stroll in our familiar surroundings can give us sights that may have been overlooked or seemed oblivious to existence. We have often heard the phrase, ‘sleep over it…’ What happens when we sleep over it? We pause, we reflect, and we assimilate within which usually provides better insight for us to make decisions. It can improve not only decisions, but relationships, communication, and overall well-being. A friend of mine who is a banker has lived his entire life in Delhi. However, every quarter for a week he is at his head office in Mumbai. He has followed this ritual for over ten years. His cousin was shifting to Mumbai to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. She called this ‘city insider’, also her brother with questions on how it would be best for her to approach a new city. What would be a good neighborhood to live in Mumbai which would be close to her place of work, where to buy household stuff from, which places to visit in the beginning, etc. To her surprise, my friend had a tough time answering those questions. He realized that during numerous visits he made to Mumbai, he hardly explored the place in the last ten years. He was amazed at his own approach to living. In a profound reflective mood, he called me one day, and said, ‘Pal, smell some flowers. That’s what I never did.’ I made sure not to overlook fragrances that are out there in abundance. Ever.
