This ad leans into that chaos with a bunch of over-the-top personalities, and honestly, it’s pretty funny. It’s like Swiggy is saying, “We know it’s crazy, but we’ve got you.” But here’s the question—does this kind of ‘cringe’ marketing actually work? Some people love it, others, not so much. Rise of category specific quick commerce companies: While I see very low loyalty & huge switching behaviour amongst folks while using the 3-4 quick commerce apps they use, majorly driven by availability of a particular product/brand/SKU i.e. overall assortment & pricing, but slowly this should start changing and sticky loyal behaviour will emerge which would be a result of 2 things: a. degree of association this might be towards the imagery/associations that the particular brand enjoys in consumers' minds, or the category for which they are buying. this shall be very important considering the private labels that all of these quick commerce apps wish to launch. while I read some figures around this meat brand of Zepto <relish> doing some good numbers, but going forward, this scaling will depend on associations of 'hygiene', 'tender', 'fresh', ' value for money', in competition with other quick commerce apps having their own brands in the same category. b. experience: the above perception/associations/imagery will be continuously tested against the actual experience delivered. So, sooner or later, any first mover advantage will be gone, and it shall be more about depth of execution in each of these areas. P.S: Whilst everyone wants to have grocery as their holy grail, disruption & consumer behaviour shift will be the fastest w.r.t this category considering the fresh food and grocery preferences. Reached 200 reviews for our current Airbnb 🙌 ! How we got started as Airbnb hosts and what the journey has been like 👇 When we set out to buy our first house in Oct 2015, we had no plans to become Airbnb hosts. However, after losing out on 2 bidding wars, we knew we needed to change up our house buying strategy. We needed to increase our budget but we didn't want to actually have a bigger mortgage, so Sandy and I started exploring buying a bigger house and Airbnb'ing part of the house to offset the mortgage. We then found a house with an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) in the basement that we could Airbnb and ended up buying that house. The ADU had a separate entrance and had 2 small bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and laundry. Then in Oct 2021, we found another house in the neighborhood that had a detached ADU and we decided to change houses. The space used to be a detached garage that got converted into a 1bedroom, 1 bathroom cottage with a kitchen, and laundry. This was a much better setup since the guests had a separate space from us. Since Oct 2015, we've generated over $267K in additional income (after fees) that help us pay for the majority of our mortgage . The income helps us feel more free when we make decisions to take longer trips since we don't have much of a mortgage to worry about. Whereas a lot of people move to cheaper cities or further away from the city to save money, for us, being in the city and in a highly desirable neighborhood for tourists actually helps us save money because it keeps our Airbnb at 85% occupancy. While we get the occasional annoying guest, the vast majority of our guests have been awesome and I've had great conversations with many of them. Moral of the story: Don't be afraid to think out of the box for a solution when presented with a problem. You might just end up becoming an Airbnb host 😜

Rethinking Zomato’s Premium Membership Value Proposition As a dedicated Zomato user and product manager, I’ve noticed a concerning change in Zomato's premium membership benefits. Despite subscribing to the premium plan, users are now being charged an additional ₹20 per order for "priority" delivery. This raises a couple of questions: 1. If we are now paying extra for priority, were premium orders not prioritized before? 2. How does this new charge align with the value proposition of the premium membership? Additionally, Zomato’s associated service, Blinkit does not offer a premium plan, which diminishes the overall perceived value of being a Zomato premium member. As customers, we seek value and efficiency. With these recent changes, it has become more cost-effective for me to use Swiggy, Zepto or even direct orders from local stores. It’s crucial for Zomato to reassess their pricing strategy and ensure that premium members feel their subscription is worthwhile. Clear communication and value consistency are key to maintaining customer trust and loyalty and I feel a lot of startups which received good customer feedback have started going after only money while doing nothing about their own services.
