Learn API policy template in SAP APIM, speed up, reduce effort in API proxy setup. Imagine need to configure 200+ S4 OData as API proxy, each with repeating policies. Policy template allow you to group multiple policies that frequently used together, and let you with just few clicks, add and apply to API proxy. This might save you 2 weeks effort to just 2 days. Below share some key concept. You can use it as exercise for APIM interview questions(see how many you know the answer) or just for self-check / self-learning: Q: Can I add multiple policies when create policy template? A: Yes. Q: Can I apply multiple policy template to single API proxy? A: Yes. The effect is keep appending. Q: What happen if I apply same policy template again to same API proxy? A: Policy steps duplicated, policy duplicated with name begin with "Copy_" Q: Is it must apply all policies in policy template? A: No. You can by default select all, or de-select some policy too. Q: After apply policy template, If i make change to policy in API proxy, will it reflect back in original policy template? A: No. When apply policy template, is copy over to API proxy, not dynamic ref to policy template. Q: After apply policy template to 100 API proxies, if later need do 1 minor change to policy template, is it have to re-do all change one-by-one to each 100 API proxies? A: Yes. Unfortunately, it is tedious to make change to all 100 APi proxies again, so strike to make it right at the first time. Q: Can I update policies from different API proxy to single policy template? A: No. Policy template doesn't support partial update. Q: Any ready-available policy template to use? A: Yes, SAP do have some from SAP Business Accelerator Hub. Q: Why I not seeing "Apply" menu from Policies? A: Need click "Edit" first, otherwise only see "Create/Update" Q: Should I use policy template? A: Yes! If you want to be more efficient.
