Is India ready for Level 3 Autonomous Cars ? While we started discussions in Government bodies of OEMs for readiness on L3 regulations, the reality is far behind in India for adopting Autonomous cars like BYD , Tesla already providing these features in other countries. Several challenges need to be addressed for a successful transition. Firstly, infrastructure development is crucial, including the installation of robust communication networks and smart traffic management systems. Secondly, high-speed networking and wireless connectivity, such as 5G networks and Wi-Fi 6, play a crucial role in autonomous vehicles’ functioning. Multi-Gigabit Ethernet with time-sensitive networking (TSN) ensures quality of service (QoS) and enables seamless data sharing across the vehicle are some aspects of technology that are still not widespread in India. Additionally, ensuring data privacy and cybersecurity will be critical, as autonomous vehicles rely on extensive data sharing. Moreover, public acceptance and trust in autonomous vehicles must be fostered through awareness campaigns and stringent safety regulations.

I am facing a peculiar customer service issue with Tata Motors. I wonder what you guys do in such situations. I own a Tata Nexon EV. The vehicle works rather well. It has a nifty design feature - a socket for an umbrella built right into the driver's door. The socket is small, and not every umbrella fits into it. Tata Motors has umbrellas designed to fit this socket (sold separately from the car). The dealerships in Goa never seem to carry it, so I decided to buy it online from here: https://lnkd.in/dTi9pCun The website requires me to submit my car registration number and chassis number in order to buy an umbrella. Annoyed by this cast-your-net-wide manner of data collection, I nevertheless obliged because I really need this umbrella (biblical rains in Goa this year). But of course the website doesn't work, and freezes when one tries to submit the vehicle number. So I wrote to customer service, requesting assistance in procuring said parasol. And on cue they reply back asking for the chassis number, registration number and odometer reading in order to "take my case further". Obstinate as I am, I wrote back, asking why Tata must establish am umblical connection between my vehicle chassis and the umbrella before selling it to me. Here is where it gets weird. I am getting calls. I am getting email replies. In each of them, robotically, they keep asking for the chassis number. When I ask them why the chassis number is required, there isn't even silence. They simply ignore me and repeat back the same question - please give us your chassis number in order to proceed further. I don't know what to say. Indian corporates have reduced their minions to a situation worse than robots, where they have no intellect or soul left. They just do the master's bidding, with no shame or self respect. I really do see a future for genAI now, if this is the kind of mind numbness it intends to replace. But I digress. What would you do in such a dystopian situation, where the stakes are not high at all? It is just an umbrella after all (although I am inclined to buy two now that I've put in so much effort).

When was the last instance you gained insights through play? It likely wasn't very recent. Today, the leadership team of Elektrobit India's Products division learned several management lessons through engaging in a fun game initiated by head of Products Kollu NandaKumar assisted by Ashwini S As the invitation had 'Play and Learn' in its subject we already knew it's gonna be fun & serious both but didn't know the process of it . I was not sure what we would do for 3hrs. Our leader began the game with the first instruction to the team. We began playing the game with excitement and light mood which swiftly was challenged with an apt question, 'is this how you begin this process in a real scenario?'. This question prompted us to realize that people's behavior remains consistent across various contexts—whether in professional, personal, or recreational settings like this game. The game involved a straightforward instruction: form a project team of 5 individuals, including a project manager, and pass a ball 8 times within the team. The challenge was to ensure that the ball reached every team member's hands in a round without passing it to adjacent teammates. The Project team came up with an estimation, committed it to the customer and executed it where the customer started demanding for lesser time every single time. This went for 8 rounds, where the 1st attempt took 61 seconds until the 8th attempt took only 2.6 seconds. Up until the 5th round, team optimised their process several times without change of the solution, without a new idea where we had to still spend 11 minutes. The last 3 rounds is when we innovated a new idea and optimized it reaching the final time of 2.6 seconds. With each round, we could draw parallels between our mistakes and the challenges we face in our professional endeavors. It wasn't surprising to realize that we often make similar mistakes, we showcase similar strengths in both work and play. Despite beginning and ending as a fun activity, everyone in the room managed to derive at least 3 key learnings and identify one actionable item for themselves. Below are my learnings: 1. Increased awareness of competition stimulates higher ambition, leading to improved results. 2. Emphasize clarity in communication and don't hesitate to seek assistance when needed. 3. Recognize that continuous optimization alone may not suffice for achieving better outcomes; integrating innovation with optimization is key. Following are my action items: 1. KYC - Know Your Competitors 2. Don't give into the pressure, step back when it's too much and introspect Thank you Kollu NandaKumar for sharing your learnings with your team by taking us through the enjoyable experience of learning by playing. “Affordability of cars is a concern," Maruti Suzuki India Limited chairman RC Bhargava said recently when asked why car sales have slowed down this year after witnessing bumper numbers over the past two years. At the same time, Maruti Suzuki’s subscription-based car-buying plan ‘Subscribe’ surged past 10,000 subscriptions in March this year, a milestone achieved in four years. This car ownership program by Maruti has added 5,000 new customers in 2024, showing a significant 44% growth over FY2022-23. This program can be availed by customers without a down payment (like in a loan) for bringing home a car. The subscription model lets you drive a Maruti car with all the perks of a new vehicle, minus the hassle of insurance, maintenance, and any other costs. All these costs are included in the car’s monthly rent. In a book chapter “Servitization in the Digital Era” we wrote from Infosys last year, we looked at product affordability due to inflation and increasing complexity and features in products, and how that would drive an increase in subscription-based business models or servitization. Companies cannot afford to ignore this business model in the short to medium term. Karnataka's Kannada labelling mandate sparks debate among manufacturers Karnataka will introduce regulations that require Kannada labelling on locally made products. While some industries are concerned about the increased costs and implementation challenges, others believe it can be managed. The government is urged to consider the pros and cons, consult stakeholders, and give sufficient time for adoption. Dr. Neeta Shukla and team has developed an #innovative software to optimize the existing Non-Kannada packaging to have labels in "#Kannada" language. the software will give the optimized solution and suggest on the available space, font sizes, location etc. which will help in #cost-reduction and overcome the implementation challenges. Telangana introduces vehicle scrappage policy Telangana has become the latest state in India to announce a vehicle scrappage policy, called the Voluntary Vehicle Fleet Modernization Policy (VVMP). This initiative aims to phase out 'end-of-life vehicles', and aligns with recent amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. This policy will allow owners who scrap their transport vehicles older than eight years and non-transport vehicles older than 15 years to be eligible for tax concessions when purchasing new vehicles of the same category. The Telangana government has also waived outstanding Green Tax and penalties on quarterly taxes for these vehicles, provided they are scrapped within two years of the policy’s notification. Under this policy, buyers of new two-wheelers with an ex-showroom price of up to Rs 5 lakh will get tax rebates of up to Rs 5,000.
