Our Partner, Sidhant Kumar along with our team comprising Manyaa Chandok and Om Batra appeared for ANI in the contempt proceedings brought against Wikipedia for its failure to disclose information regarding users who have made defamatory statements as was directed to be disclosed by the High Court. The Court was not satisfied with the response of Wikipedia that it is not an entity based in India. The Court also rejected Wikipedia’s request to make submissions regarding the order. The Court has called for the personal appearance of an authorised representative of Wikipedia on the next date of hearing. Bar and Bench

Unum Law acted for ANI Media, a leading syndicated news agency in its action against Wikipedia for defamation and interference with its right to reputation by permitting only selective user edits to its page on Wikipedia. This case raises the crucial question of the independence platforms such as Wikipedia that serve as public sources of information. Our Partner Sidhant Kumar led the matter along with Manyaa Chandok and Om Batra.

I am pleased to announce that last month a team comprising Milind Khemka, Tarun Doyal and myself represented National Law University, Delhi in the prestigious Herbert Smith Freehills Competition Law Moot 2024 held at King's College London. Our team was one of the top 12 teams, out of 49 teams worldwide, to have qualified for the Oral Rounds. We emerged as Quarter Finalists in the competition. Further, Milind received an honorable mention for excellent advocacy during the competition. For this, I would like to extend my gratitude to our coach Nimit Rajesh Goyal for mentoring and guiding us throughout the duration of the moot, from the writing of the memorials to practicing for oral rounds. Sincere thanks also to our Junior Researchers Vibhakar Mittal and Saksham Vaidya as well for helping us in our research whenever required. The Unum Team successfully represented the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh before the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission in its INR 395 crore claim, towards charges for the use of its transmission network for supply outside of the State of Andhra Pradesh. The dispute arose as a result of the denial of these charges by the National Load Despatch Centre. The decision is an important judgment to reconcile the prior and existing sharing mechanisms for transmission charges across the National Grid.

In a significant ruling, the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity affirmed the jurisdiction of the Andhra Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission to impose Grid Support Charges on Captive Power Producers in the State, as a consideration for the benefit derived from grid integration. The Unum Team led by our Partner Sidhant Kumar and Counsel Manyaa Chandok, successfully represented the Andhra Pradesh State Distributors and Transmission Companies in this matter.
