It’s clear that investing in childhood literacy and numeracy is more than worth it: When children can read and understand basic math by age 10, they’re more likely to continue learning, advance their education, and build economic power. While we’ve made significant progress in worldwide literacy, our work is not done. Literacy rates in low and middle-income countries continue to lag behind that of their high-income neighbors. Not only that: this trend has worsened in recent years, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Ensuring children can read and understand basic numeracy is not just a moral imperative. Evidence shows that to ensure long-term growth, countries need to invest in health and education that goes beyond just access to learning, and actively works to improve children’s basic skills in literacy and numeracy to unlock their potential (academically and beyond). Getting these foundations right is a spring board to drive stronger education systems. Following #WorldLiteracyDay, learn more about our work to advance scalable solutions to global literacy so that every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential. https://lnkd.in/g2rPs78x

In the fight against polio, the world has come so far—99.9% of the way to eradication. But the final stretch is the hardest, and the road ahead remains critical. Every child deserves protection, and the work we’re doing today is building a safer, healthier tomorrow for everyone. The successful vaccination campaign in Gaza is a key moment in this journey, thanks to the dedication of partners like the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), UAE and other donors who help make this life-saving effort possible. Measles is one of the world’s most contagious diseases, infecting up to 90% of unvaccinated people exposed to it. Luckily, we have a tried-and-tested solution: the measles vaccine. Over the past 50 years, measles vaccines have saved nearly 94 million lives—60% of the total lives saved by vaccines since 1974. Despite remarkable progress in vaccination rates, 35 million children remain at risk. Meet Josephine, a mother and an entrepreneur who made a bold investment to ensure her children could get a great education. The investment: a Friesian cow that produces 16 liters of milk per day. That was double the amount produced by the local cow she had before—and enough for Josephine to feed her children and have milk left over she could sell and use to fund her children’s education. Learn more about Josephine’s story, and the work our agricultural partners are doing to enable the world’s small farms to thrive: https://lnkd.in/gNtHm82N
