ILASS Europe has its roots in an initiative of the late Paul Eisenklam, who proposed the institute in 1982 and saw its formation with the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) at UMIST 1983. The institute’s objectives have remained unchanged since that time:
… to promote the science and application of liquid atomization and spray systems by means of: sponsorship of annual scientific meetings, promotion and preparation of technical papers, and promotion of membership in ILASS Europe among interested and qualified persons resident in the geographical area of Europe.
ILASS Europe has sponsored many Annual Scientific Meetings, typically held in the summer with over 100 participants, and hosted two ICLASS conferences (International Congress on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems). ILASS Europe maintains close contacts with its associated organizations ILASS Americas and ILASS Asia and the umbrella organization, ILASS International.
