"Global electricity demand from data centers could double by 2026, with IT infrastructure adding the equivalent power requirements of another Sweden or Germany." A shift to specialized chips not only refocuses on sustainability for the most power- and carbon-intensive data center workloads like analytics, but also drives key capabilities and accelerates innovation.

Engaged conversation with technology investment community - Greatest era of technology led human progress I had the privilege to address a group of technology investors, mainly the PEs, family offices and hedge funds last week. While the conversation’s main focus was to identify, qualify and own “needle moving” innovative startups in hardware accelerated/embedded analytics and inference (AIML including LLMs), I spent most of my time coaching them about a scientific method to identify weak signals of profound future impact and associated novel IPs to win a significant TAM/SAM with rich ecosystem. It’s less about accelerator offload for high value workloads via purpose-built Data Processing Units, Infrastructure Processing Units, Analytics Processing Units, Neuromorphic or Graphical units or SmartNICs (think about AMD Pensando, NVIDIA Bluefield, Intel Corporation IPUs, Speedata.io APUs etc.), it’s more about ambient real time actionable insights to influence and possibly, positively impact the outcome - that nano second latency arbitrage could make a world of difference. The world of evolving compute, storage, networking and software needs to address that. In my mind APUs like Speedata.io for h/w accelerated, purpose built data analytics offload will fair far better than any mainstream DPUs and emerging world of GenAI, LLMs and foundational models acceleration will exploit it shortly. On the software side, it will all be about data abstractions, virtualizations, distributed query, smart caching and remote direct memory access on always on always live intelligent data fabric. I have no doubt that we are living in the best era of technology accelerated human progress and these new breed of innovative firms will move human species forward. In this “dog eat dog” world of tech and capitalism, your unique ip in analytics and modeling is the greatest lever for your wallet and humanity - so innovate rapidly and abundantly! I identified a number of startups with healthy financials and GTM to put on radar for these rainmakers - reach out if you want to learn more, and bring that nice bottle of wine!! #dpu #ipu #smartnic #fpga #gpu #tpu #datascience #dataanalytics #aiml #genai #edgecomputing #virtualization #abstraction
