#apptio is a waste destroyer to keep your technology estate in-balance! Reminds me of an idea inspired by biology and homeostasis that I had once: the need for enterprises to define a code destroyer job role. They would balance development roles in some optimal ratio so that app, code and infrastructure growth did not simply grow unbounded. You might call them optimizers or tuners. Development as a word is akin to building/creating/adding. Seems logical to have a counterforce to avoid waste. In biology, unbounded cell growth usually has a negative connotation and poor outcome. Heads up folks... #FinOps #billing nightmare ahead... infact, I was JUST talking to Brendan Beltz about this at a #CodeWithMe event a week ago! I've surely seen this with a few Better Than Services customers... we had one decommission a set of API keys that were being used by an internal utility that... well... didn't exactly have the best retry logic on failed requests! Another pro-tip for all your command-line util users... many of them, including a few of our favorites that leverage some of the S3 tiers mentioned in one of our blog post... https://lnkd.in/esfqwp8H (good read! ;) ... have default options for multipart uploads of large files... Check those options!! Some of them default to the min size of 5mb... on a 1gb file, that's over 200 PUT requests!! In most of them there are options to increase that part size and save yourself a TON of requests.
