Get an inside look at some of the early steps of our manufacturing process. A special thanks to our friends at Ridgway Machines Ltd for their help in integrating high-temperature superconductors into our prototype cables. This critical stage involves wrapping superconductor and copper tapes onto our smooth-bore liquid nitrogen pipe using a custom machine developed by Ridgway. After this, we add further layers to complete the cable and prepare it for testing. One step closer to advancing innovation in superconducting technology! #Innovation #Superconductors #Collaboration #TechDevelopment #FutureEnergy

⏱ The public consultation on EU Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) amendments proposal to the NC HVDC is closing soon! The network code lays down the requirements for high voltage direct current systems and related power park modules, and the revisions aim to: - Enhance the existing grid connection regulatory framework - Align the code with the network codes on requirements for grid connection of generators and on demand connection - Ensure the interconnected system is adapted to emerging trends, such as the increasing generation capacity of offshore networks (AC hubs) and the connection of new system users (storage, demand facilities) Many thanks to ACER for ensuring that the diverse perspectives within the industry for this revision are considered, and looking forward to future opportunities to engage with the Agency! 👉 You can access the CurrENT cover letter here: https://lnkd.in/dMB3zits 👉 You can access our full consultation response here: https://lnkd.in/dKGswHWm

Transitioning to clean energy requires more than solar panels and wind turbines; it also demands the modernisation of our outdated electrical infrastructure. In a recent Bloomberg podcast, Akshat Rathi delves into a crucial barrier to achieving decarbonisation: the inefficiencies of current grid systems. Our current AC transmission systems are ill-equipped to handle the variable output of renewables, creating significant bottlenecks. With renewable energy now generating over 30% of global electricity—upgrading grid infrastructure is crucial to prevent future capacity issues. SuperNode is developing next-generation superconducting cables, which are designed to address these grid inefficiencies. Superconductors are a phenomenon in some materials that, when cooled to very low temperatures, can transmit power with zero electrical losses. These cables can carry huge amounts of power in a much smaller surface area than conventional cables and require significantly less infrastructure, materials and space. This technology can alleviate the strain on existing grids while supporting the efficient integration of renewable energy sources, paving the way for a more resilient and sustainable energy infrastructure. #GridInfrastructure #ElectricityGrids #RenewableEnergy #Decarbonisation

SuperNode will be attending the CIGRE Paris Session 2024 next week. As we continue to develop next-generation superconducting cable systems, we’re excited to work alongside industry leaders to drive forward this technology. Superconductors have the potential to revolutionise power transmission, reducing infrastructure demands while significantly increasing capacity. We’ll be participating in working groups, meeting with colleagues from the Mission and Scarlet projects, and attending the CurrENT Europe breakfast. We look forward to insightful discussions that will shape the next generation of power systems. #CIGRE2024 #EnergyInnovation #Superconductors #PowerTransmission #FutureOfEnergy #RenewableEnergy

Last week, our fantastic interns completed their end-of-internship presentations in front of our Senior Leadership Team. They’ve been an essential part of our team, and we’ll miss them as they wrap up their internships over the next month. We’re very proud of all they’ve accomplished and wish them the very best in their future endeavours! 🚀 "Working at SuperNode is really exciting; being in uncharted territory means that there is so much room for creativity, which leads to innovation" - Flynn. 🌟 "I was exposed to a wide range of exciting problems and given the independence to apply myself in a meaningful way. It is a great work environment; all the staff are incredibly friendly and always willing to help" - Freeman. 🌍"This internship has been invaluable not only for my career and experience but also for the chance to work with a team united by a common goal" - Ciaran.

Exciting developments from the UK this week! The National Grid ESO has designed a plan to connect 4.5 gigawatts of floating offshore wind to the grid. Alongside Ofgem’s £4.35 billion 'Superhighway' for Scottish wind power, recent weeks have seen significant strides in advancing the UK's renewable energy infrastructure. 🌍 However, this is only the beginning. To achieve our ambitious energy goals, we’ll need innovative technologies, new approaches, and strong collaboration between governments, planners, regulators, and system operators. Decarbonisation will require a coordinated, sustained effort, but the goal of secure, affordable renewable energy is worth striving for. #RenewableEnergy #GridUpgrades #OffshoreWind #EnergyTransition #Innovation

Germany's goal of achieving 70 GW of offshore wind capacity by 2045 requires innovative approaches beyond conventional methods. In our feedback on the German Federal Network Agency's draft Grid Development Plan, SuperNode advocates for superconducting cable technology, a cutting-edge solution that effectively balances infrastructure expansion with environmental protection. John Fitzgerald, CEO of SuperNode, said: “The next generation of superconducting land and submarine cables will be ready for the market before the end of this decade. This is within the timeframe quoted for conventional submarine cables.” To achieve our ambitious renewable energy targets, it's crucial to support the development and implementation of these technologies.
