Last Monday, we joined together with representatives from other NGOs to hold a vigil and display all the publicly available names of those who lost their lives over the last year in Gaza, Israel, the West Bank, and Lebanon. We stood outside the houses of parliament to mourn together and to demand an immediate, unconditional and sustained ceasefire. #CeasefireNOW

About us
Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian aid organisation. We save peoples' lives in conflict zones, epidemics and natural disasters. Independence, neutrality and impartiality are at the core of everything we do. Our network of medics, logistical professionals and administrative staff spans more than 70 countries. Our medical teams carry out more than nine million patient consultations a year. Our activities run from vaccination campaigns to complex surgery in war zones. From building hospitals to recruiting local teams, our non-medical staff make sure our field projects run smoothly, no matter what happens. And in our 26 headquarter offices around the globe, we fundraise, communicate and advocate on behalf of our patients. All of our income in the UK comes from private donations. Eighty-nine percent goes to our medical projects. Only one percent is spent on administration and staff costs. The rest we reinvest in fundraising. Our independent funding means we can act rapidly; we don’t need to wait for governments or other institutions to send us funds. Following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, we treated our first patients within minutes as we were already on the ground. We work to help people in the greatest need, wherever and whenever they need it. This will always be what motivates us.

The latest forced mass displacements of residents of Beit Hanoun, Jabalia and Beit Lahia, in northern Gaza, and the bombing of entire neighbourhoods by Israeli forces are turning the north of Gaza into an unliveable wasteland, emptying it out of Palestinian life. To make matters worse, no humanitarian supplies have been allowed to enter this part of the Strip since 1 October. Tens of thousands of people are pushed to move south to the overcrowded, so-called humanitarian zone between Al-Mawasi and Deir Al-Balah, where one million people are already living in inhumane conditions. The zone also remains unsafe for civilians and aid workers, as Israeli forces continue to repeatedly strike the area. #CeasefireNOW #DoctorsWithoutBorders

Thousands of people are trapped in Jabalia camp, north Gaza, as Israeli forces attack the area. Nobody is allowed to get in or out, anyone who tries is getting shot,” says Sarah Vuylsteke, MSF project coordinator. Five MSF staff are trapped in the camp, fearing for their lives. “We were staying at the Al-Yemen Al-Saeed Hospital, but they bombed it. About 20 people were killed. I don’t know what to do, at any moment we could die. People are starving. I am afraid to stay, and I am also afraid to leave,” says Haydar, MSF driver trapped in Jabalia camp. Israeli forces issued evacuation orders on 7 October in Jabalia camp while carrying out attacks at the same time, preventing people from leaving the area safely. Forced evacuations of homes and bombing of neighbourhoods by the Israeli forces is turning north Gaza into unhabitable ruins. MSF calls on the Israeli forces to halt forced displacements and to stop the all-out war on people in Gaza. Israeli forces must also ensure the protection of civilians and hospitals and allow desperately needed humanitarian supplies to enter the north as a matter of extreme urgency. #CeasefireNOW #DoctorsWithoutBorders

🔴 On 10 October, after an Israeli airstrike targeted a school in Deir Al Balah, Central Gaza, the MSF-supported Al Aqsa Hospital turned once again into scenes of chaos and bloodshed with the arrival of dozens of wounded and 20 dead people. Sixty patients, including five severely injured children, were brought to the Al Aqsa Hospital. “The staff are feeling helpless. There are no beds, and enough supplies to treat the wounded. We don’t even have sterile gauzes left”, says Eliza Sabatini, MSF nurse in Gaza. This is the second time in the span of a week that the Al Aqsa Hospital has received an influx of severely wounded patients due to Israeli airstrikes. Israel must immediately stop its all-out war on people in Gaza. #CeasefireNOW #DoctorsWithoutBorders

Israeli evacuation orders for parts of northern Gaza, issued on 7 October, are pushing tens of thousands of people to immediately flee south as the area is targeted by airstrikes and a ground offensive. In this latest forced mass displacement, residents have been urged to move to the overcrowded, so-called humanitarian zone between Al-Mawasi and Deir Al-Balah, where one million people are already living in inhumane conditions. The zone also remains unsafe for civilians and aid workers, as Israeli forces continue to repeatedly strike the area.

"I really want to dispel the illusion that there is a humanitarian safe zone." Last week, we held a press conference to reflect on twelve months of conflict in Gaza. Dr Natalie Roberts and Dr Javid Abdelmoneim in London were joined by Dr Mohamed Abu Mughaiseb and Hanadi Katerji, speaking live from Gaza. 📢 We call for a halt to the destruction of the healthcare system and civilian infrastructure. We need an immediate, unconditional and sustained ceasefire now. Watch the full press conference 👇 https://lnkd.in/e9gwHpnx

🔴 In the early hours of 7 October, the compound of the MSF-supported Al Aqsa hospital, Deir Al Balah, was once again hit by an Israeli strike, while another strike hit a tent in the street only a dozen metres away from the hospital. Eight people injured in these strikes were treated at the hospital. This comes one day after an Israeli airstrike hit a mosque right next to the hospital. Over the past months, the Al Aqsa hospital compound and its surroundings have been repeatedly hit, while it is one of the only 17 hospitals still partially functional in the Strip. The World Health Organization has reported 516 attacks on healthcare in Gaza over the past year. Any fighting, bombings and shelling in the immediate vicinity or grounds of a hospital are unacceptable. 📢 MSF calls on all warring parties to protect medical staff, health facilities and patients at all times.
