titfer

slang A hat. The term comes from rhyming slang in which "titfer" is short for "titfer tat" ("tit for tat"), which rhymes with "hat." Primarily heard in UK. I'm looking for a man in a red titfer—have you seen him? It's pretty cold out today—you should really wear a titfer.
