make a difference to (one)

To be of importance to one; to make a significant impact or effect on one. You can either take the money or not—it really doesn't make a difference to me. I hope you know that the charity work you've been doing really makes a difference to these kids.

[for one choice or another] to matter to someone. The big one or the little one—does it really make a difference to anyone? It makes quite a difference to me!
