To care just the smallest amount. (A "whit" is an iota.) Often used in the negative. I don't care a whit what the neighbors say, I'm not taking that fence down! Does Elsa care a whit about our plans? No, I don't think she does! I don't care a whit what her excuse is—we need those flowers by 11:00 AM, and that's final.
