To temporarily grant one a position of power or authority. Because I'm going on vacation, I deputized my assistant as my surrogate. Am I allowed to deputize my research assistant as my proxy? I just need her to be able to check out library books for me. I can't believe the boss deputized Brad as temporary manager. That guy is gonna be such a jerk about it!
