1. To act wildly or rambunctiously with someone, typically while making a lot of noise. Would you quit carrying on with your brother like that? I can't hear myself think! When you live above a bar, one drunken fool is always carrying on with another when you're trying to sleep. Mom rushed into the playroom when she heard the kids carrying on with each other so loudly.
2. To have an affair with someone. Did you see the big reveal at the end of last week's episode? The maid has been carrying on with the lord of the manor! He says he's going away for business, but I suspect he's really carrying on with another woman behind my back. I can't believe you're carrying on with a married woman!
3. To flirt with someone. Quit carrying on with Ted like that—he's a married man! I turned around and saw my boyfriend carrying on with some hussy at the bar. I can't believe that guy carried on with you all night and didn't ask for your number!
