eat (one's) Wheaties

To mentally and physically prepare or bolster oneself for a task or activity that requires a large amount of energy or effort. A reference to the cereal Wheaties, which advertises itself as the "Breakfast of Champions" and features prominent athletes on the front of its box. You're running an ultramarathon at the end of the summer? You'd better eat your Wheaties! You can't move that table by yourself? Geez, guess you didn't eat your Wheaties! A: "Wow, you really ate your Wheaties this morning!" B: "No, that door must have already been broken—there's no way I yanked it off its hinges with brute strength!"
