WeAreOpen (Nyitottak vagyunk in Hungarian) is a diversity initiative founded in Hungary by Google, Prezi and espell, in the summer of 2013. It currently has a community of over 1,100 companies and organizations, and has run more than 20 diversity campaigns locally in the past years. WeAreOpen's mission is to raise public awareness of the fact that diversity is a value for organizations, and to provide companies with tools that they can leverage off to become more open workplaces.

ERGs are groups where employees connect based on common interests (e.g., parenting community, green workgroup) or identities (e.g., LGBTQ, women leaders). These groups contribute to a stronger sense of community and belonging in the workplace. In 2024, we have four generations (boomers, X, Y and Z) in the workplace at the same time, and while diversity is wonderful, effective collaboration is based on understanding and respecting each other's motivations and values. Our #DEI expert, Zsuzsa Laszlo, conducted a workshop on generational collaboration at one our members, Trivium Packaging BSC, Europe. 💪 The goal of the workshop was to bridge the generational gap, leading to a more cohesive and thriving workplace culture and environment. It also fosters connection-building, making it easier for colleagues to understand each other. During the session, participants explored topics such as recognizing the strengths in generational differences and understanding different perspectives, as well as communication strategies tailored to each age group. The workshop concluded with team-building activities, proving that the BSC is dedicated to being an open, curious, and inclusive workplace where colleagues trust each other. 🚀 We believe and see that bridging generational gaps can improve group dynamics, create a more positive work environment, and foster innovation among colleagues, ultimately increasing employee satisfaction. We had a busy day at Bosch Magyarország as part of their Diversity Week, with our expert, organizational psychologist László Léder, giving two Open Talks for the employees. 👨👧👦 At the Father Academy, we addressed the issue of active fatherhood, specifically how to reconcile this family role with our workplace. Although work-life as a theme is mainly presented in a female context. Claudia Goldin's theory of 'couple equity' also highlights that one of the most basic conditions for achieving gender equality and closing the pay gap is the creation of couple equality in private life, which can ensure that both members of a couple share equally the responsibilities of childbearing and home management. During the presentation, we highlighted that supporting active fatherhood can be a powerful motivational tool that helps preventing burnout, and leads to more balanced, loyal, and motivated employees with better performance. 🤝 In the Embracing Diversity Across Generations talk, we focused on generational differences in the workplace and how they can lead to varied experiences. We discussed in detail the real or perceived barriers and misunderstandings that can occur between different generations at work, how to operate without generational stereotypes, and the many benefits of a multigenerational workplace culture - e.g. effective teamwork and work performance - if we can consciously manage the differences that arise.
