A two time All-American and three-time All-Southern Conference selection, Billy Lyon was a disruptive force as a defensive tackle throughout his Marshall career. In three seasons as a starter, Lyon helped Marshall to a 39-5 record, including a 15-0 mark and the 1996 NCAA Division I-AA national championship as a senior captain, a year in which he made 91 tackles, including 15 behind the line of scrimmage and logged nine quarterback sacks. As a junior, Lyon helped the Thundering Herd reach the national title game by making a career-high 13 tackles, including one for a safety, in Marshall’s semifinal upset win at No. 1 McNeese State. Lyon went on to play in 72 games, starting seven, in a six-year NFL career with the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings. Lyon was inducted into the Marshall Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007.
